Il 7 maggio del 1624 arriva a Palermo, proveniente da Tunisi, il vascello della redenzione dei cattivi (riscatto dei cristiani prigionieri degli infedeli).
Il Vicerè Emanuele Filiberto, contro il parere del Senato che sospettava che a bordo covasse la peste, ne permette l’attracco, “carico come era di mercanzie e ricchi doni a lui inviati dal Re di Tunisi”, la peste si diffonde in città.

Un rarissimo esemplare della raccolta di incisioni realizzate nel 1629 da Philips de Mallery su disegni di Antoon van Dyck, che ha per soggetto Santa Rosalia è stato ritrovato a Palermo nella Biblioteca di Palazzo Branciforte, sede della Fondazione Sicilia.
Intitolata S. Rosaliae Virginis Panormitanae Pestis Patronæ iconibus expressa, incisore Cornelius Galle, Antwerp (Anversa), l’incisione è stata individuata nel fondo di libri antichi custodito nella Biblioteca del Palazzo dai professori Maria Concetta Di Natale e Sergio Intorre.
