One thing about Sankt Peter-Ording: it is not as warm as the Sahara Desert, but you get the feeling walking down to the sea across the sand is just as far in Northern Germany, as it is in Northern Africa.

The last time I rode a bicycle was as a child, back in the mists of time. That was also the first time someone stole something from me, that I recall.

Always out there with my camera, and sometimes there is an image outside of my usual which appeals. These are the tracks I was soon to drive along at the train station in Elmshorn, on the way to Sankt Peter-Ording yesterday.

After a cup of coffee the journey continues. A train to Sankt Peter-Ording arrives just as the announcement that the train from Sankt Peter Ording is cancelled, and seemingly mass confusion on the platform. I have the choice of seats while "to" and "from" are explained.
Sad news is that a complete class of loud children climb into my carriage. The journey is 51 minutes long. Not good for peace of mind, or my ears.

It takes a special kind of expertise to change a delay of four minutes, without any building sites along the way, into one of twelve. There must be some sort of special qualification.

A platform change for us arriving in Husum, so the changeover would be even longer.
Good thing I don't have urgent plans. Just a relaxing day out.

Dawdling through the landscape, and we're now looking at eight minutes instead of four. Exactly my changeover time, so probably little chance of getting from one platform to the next.
Then again, perhaps there is something interesting to do in Husum for the hour I'm forced to wait? We shall see.

Itzehoe, and this is where the delay is due, as we sit at our platform waiting for permission to drive on. Hopefully a little faster than we've had so far....

Into the RE6 to Westerland (Sylt), the train which will be delayed from Itzehoe. Probably through a building site. Four minutes on the list, hopefully not more as my changeover in Husum is only eight.
One and a half hours to go, let's see if they can drive as fast as the last train and make up for lost time.

Elmshorn, and the driver really pushed his foot down to get us here almost on time. A coffee from the local Turkish bakery - tempted by the Baklava, but need to watch my waist.
Local train to Wrist drives through, and then mine.

The train to Kiel leaves three minutes late, but this isn't the one with the warning. See if it can make up the time, although with a 20 minute changeover, I'm not too worried.

Another quick dash in Hamburg to the train for Kiel, and my next destination of Elmshorn. A longer changeover there, but also a delay warning. We shall see.
And just to add flavour to the trip, my partner is texting me asking [quote] WTF [/quote] I am doing up so early, and whether I am warmly dressed. Such fun.

It's time for another excursion, and I've picked Sankt Peter-Ording today, up on the northern coast.
Start with the N10 night tram, and see how it goes after that. Short changeover times, but plenty of alternatives. Later in the week, I'm trying for Cuxhaven, too.
