  1. I saw someone place a little stuffed toy on a parking meter and walk away, so I tried to take a photo of it and a cable car of tourists rolled by.

  2. A very good friend was visiting me in San Francisco recently so I reluctantly went to Fisherman's Wharf with him. The tourist stuff is not too bad (once every decade)

  3. It was a nice day out.

View of the bike path to Sausalito right after crossing Golden Gate Bridge; cars above, water beyond. I can bike over there in about 45 minutes from my home (30 of those minutes usually spent shivering and fighting the wind on the Golden Gate Bridge)

(Nikonos IV, Kodak Vision 3 250D, self-dev ECN-2 and scan)

  4. For folks who are interested in learning to develop and scan film, there are two good options in San Francisco:

    1. The quarterly classes run by the city at the city’s darkroom, Harvey Milk Photo Center (cheaper, but registration sells out within the first hour when they open them)

    2. This class at Photolaundry (in the Mission), which has higher end equipment and scanners

  5. I have been taking my Olympus XA2 on my runs. It's nice to see different views of the Golden Gate Bridge. I love the Presidio.

(Olympus XA2, Fuji Superia 400, self-dev in Bellini C41 kit, scanned on Plustek 8200i)

  6. One of the smallest bars in San Francisco, and definitely the only one with a bath tub that stores drinks.

(Leica M3, 50mm Summilux, Kentmere 400, self dev in Microphen 1:1)

  7. The most famous donuts in San Francisco (Bob’s)

  8. Some of you know that I experienced a horrific racist incident in San Francisco last Friday. I took some photos and thought a bit about how there’s both ugliness and beauty in many places.

  9. Cherry blossom festival a few weeks ago at San Francisco City Hall.

Taken with my Nikon point and shoot (Nikon L35TWAD, Fuji Superia 400, self dev with Cinestill C41 kit and scanned on Plustek 8200i)

  10. One of the nice things about shooting film in San Francisco is I run into so many film photographers every single day.

Here’s a pic of a new friend I made at a recent rally for trans rights.

  11. This guy stopped me to ask me about my TLR camera (he also had one before) and to read me a poem.

(Yashica 124G, Ilford HP5, Rodinal 1+50, scanned on a Fuji frontier)

  12. I'm sad that my everyday color film (Fuji Superia 400) is going to be discontinued and replaced soon, but even sadder that it's so expensive and hard to get now.

I'm probably switching to motion picture color film. Until then, goodbye Fuji Superia 400, you've been good to me for decades.

  13. Cathenge, a strange installation of 3D printed cats in Hayes Valley in San Francisco. When you sit in the middle, they vibrate and purr.

A mistake in film development led to the odd banding on the right, but it looks like the cats are from a different planet.

  14. Pretty nice view of San Francisco skyline from a bush on Yerba Buena island (taken while on a native plant walk there with a guide)

  15. Another color film I developed and scanned: the insides of a dining venue where I volunteered this past Easter. 50 years ago, a drag queen started feeding the homeless, and later those with HIV, in the Tenderloin neighborhood where I live.

It's a wonderful program that feeds hot meals to anyone who shows up every Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas.

  16. The owner of a deli near my home also used to photograph billboards. He worked with a Horseman large format camera. He then owned a camera shop in North Beach, before switching to selling sandwiches. When he saw my Leica camera, he ran up to his office to show me a photograph he took of a nearby church shortly before it burned down in the 90s.

  18. Still amazes me that I can shoot film this morning and have it developed (in my bathroom) and scanned (at my desk, which is not in my bathroom) the same day. (I never even looked at my digital photos this quickly when I was mostly digital. But I really enjoy developing film. I should have learned it earlier, instead of last month)

Developed 4 rolls of film today!

  19. I don’t usually go out late at night (my life in San Francisco is sleepy, compared to my life in every other city I’ve lived in), but I do love going out for street food.

Here a lady makes pupusa to order.

Ive been seeing a lot more street food in the Mission these days and it is my mission to eat all of it.

  20. In case you've ever wondered what your film will look like if you accidentally develop it with some detergent: here!

(Minolta Hi-Matic 7S II, Kodak 5222, Ilfosol, with a few bubbles of Photoflo in a home dev / cleaning accident)

  21. The cool blues of San Francisco (which, despite its myth as a modern city, actually looks mostly like this)
