"Sand might not seem high-tech, but its thermal properties have been used since antiquity. #AncientEgyptians mixed sand, silt, and straw to construct homes that absorbed solar heat by day and slowly released it by night.
"Today’s engineers are taking that principle further using refined materials, insulated steel silos, and precision heating systems to build high-temperature thermal energy reservoirs using sand."

How 2,000 Tons Of #Sand Stores 100 Megawatt-Hours And Slashes Carbon Emissions 70%

"#PolarNight is doubling its size with a new 250 megawatt-hour facility in Vaaksy, #Finland, which will output 2 megawatts of energy consistently. That newer and bigger battery will use only slightly more sand – 2,400 tons – because the #SandBattery’s design renders it more efficient with size. What will become the new world’s largest sand battery is already under construction and is scheduled for completion in summer 2027."

@grzgrz #Geothermal! #Piezoelectric tiles (for cities)! #Flywheels! Also storage solutions like #SandBatteries and #IceBatteries! However, I'm not sure if nuclear fusion fits (have they perfected that yet? What about the waste?).
