Have been using #Sanborn #Maps recently for getting a handle on early 20th c rural towns -- this April 9th webinar might be useful! Description:
This orientation session will highlight the background of fire insurance mapping, the Sanborn map collections, and fire insurance maps made by other companies held in our division. We will cover how to search for, download, and interpret Sanborn map sheets. We will also discuss what’s contained in the online Sanborn collection and how computational users can take advantage of bulk downloading tools.

For those interested into looking into the #history of their local area, there's a great resource available in many areas. The #Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps provide very detailed maps of many #urban areas across the #usa. This includes many small towns and cities. Many of the older maps haven fallen into the #publicdomain and are available at Library of Congress and many other libraries.
