After attending the 2026 California Bicycle Summit, the California Coastal Commission’s Senior Transportation, Access, and Mobility Planner Devon Jackson is eager to hear from local bicycle advocates on the Central Coast. He’d appreciate their recommendations, which can help guide project planning along the coast. Contact Devon: bikemonterey.org/california-co

My friend and former manager, Sarah Bacon, is running for congress and just sent a really great launch email[0].

The email is written in normal language, comprehensive, shares the nature of the contest, what is at stake, and why she is the best candidate.

If you are in #SantaBarbara, #Ventura, or #SanLuisObispo, please consider giving Sarah your support.

  3. Vandenberg SFB:

"The U.S. Space Force has approved the launch of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying the Starlink 17-14 mission to low-Earth orbit, Wednesday, April 22, 2026, between 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. PT from Space Launch Complex 4 East (SLC-4).
    ...

There is the possibility that residents of Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura counties may hear one or more sonic booms during the launch, but what residents experience will depend on weather and other conditions."

  5. March Roaming

March was another slow month for photography, though I am happy that I managed to keep my monthly post streak going. The top 4 images are my favorites of the month. Down at the bottom are the rest of the photos I made this month. 📷

  6. February Wandering

I only got out of the house to make photos a few times in February. The rainy weather, life in general, and inertia kept me inside.

Still, there were a few that I liked. The abstract shadows and light on the floor above, triangle of light on the brick wall, the geranium photo that was made into a Valentine’s Day card for my wife, the olive colored door with the pink glow, and Rocket Fizz’s flying bike were the standouts for me.

This blog entry is my second monthly post of 2026 and keeps me on track to meet my goal of publishing every month this year. In a month we’ll see together if I can manage three posts in a row, and if I actually have something to say or I return to having just a visual blog.

Down below are the rest of the photos I judged worth sharing this month. 📷

  9. January Photo Walks, Wanderings, Roaming, Rambling…

Everything except the essential came to an abrupt halt at mid-2025 as our family navigated a health crisis. Fortunately, things are slowly improving now.

During those long months, preoccupied with more important matters, I missed my photo walks around town or along the coast that pull me out of my head, away from the house, and off my phone. The act of searching for photo opportunities forces me to pay attention to the present moment. I always return feeling better, even when I haven’t managed to make any photos worth keeping.

My photography blog has always been inconsistent, on again, off again. I had planned for 52 weekly posts in 2026, but I failed to get out and take photos during the first week. So, I’m pivoting to 12 monthly posts instead. I can create at least one photo a month, I think.

This is the first of what I hope will be 12 posts this year. These are the results of my January walks, wanderings, roaming, rambling…

Hmmmm, haven’t settled on a name yet for these posts.

  11. More than 100 detained in holiday immigration raids across Central Coast, sparking outrage

Federal immigration agents took people from their homes, job sites, businesses and on the streets as they ran errands,
#Santa #Maria City Councilmember Gloria Soto said.

She said at least 87 people were taken by agents in her town from Saturday through Tuesday.

“Children are returning home to empty houses,
[elderly people] are starting to isolate themselves
and workers are staying home out of fear," she said.

    "We cannot live in terror."

Primitiva Hernández — executive director of "805 UndocuFund", a nonprofit leading the Rapid Response Network that documents immigration sweeps in #SanLuisObispo, #SantaBarbara and #Ventura counties
    — said the operations were mostly carried out in working-class towns with predominantly Latino populations.

“What we are witnessing is the indiscriminate racial profiling of communities of color,” she said.

    “Families are being ripped apart,
workers are disappearing from job sites,
and fear is being used as a weapon.

The harm will have devastating consequences for people’s well-being
and for the economic stability of our region
and we must take action today.”

  13. NWS Los Angeles:

    "Happy Thanksgiving week!
High will become a few degrees warmer than normal, with Wednesday being the warmest. Light to moderate Santa Ana and Santa Lucia Winds will impact typical areas, but winds will generally remain under 35 mph. Winds will begin to taper off by the afternoon on Thanksgiving.
Recent rains will allow for trees to be more easily knocked down, so avoid parking under trees! "
