Nat continues: Had a remarkable experience in grad school with a prof who was reading "Babel 17" while teaching about British 17th century "available" political languages.
I generally recommend "Triton" over other books.

Nat says: Sorry--but I last read "Dhalgren" some 45 years ago & don't remember much. However, around 1994-5 he twisted my arm into reading "The Mad Man." If I remember right it was about a philosophy professor who was into coprophagy, among other things. It was difficult reading, but I learned quite a bit about inhibitions.

Now that I'm happily settled into a server I see myself staying on long-term (Humanities Commons), I thought I would finally write an #introduction.
I'm Smaran Dayal, currently an Assistant Prof. of #Literature at #Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey.
I recently got my #PhD in #ComparativeLiterature from #NYU. My PhD dissertation, which I'm now working into a book was a study of literary #Afrofuturism, in particular the novels of #SamuelDelany and #OctaviaButler.
Along with Ulrich Baer, during the first year of the pandemic, I co-edited an anthology of American literature titled Fictions of America: The Book of Firsts.
My primary research interests are #GlobalAnglophone and #AfricanAmerican literature, #postcolonial literary studies, #queertheory and #queerliterature, and, centrally, #sciencefiction studies.
Lovely to (re)connect with you all here!
