  1. Galaxy Watch4 is no longer supported

Galaxy Watch4 was the first Samsung Galaxy Watch series that featured Wear OS, an operating system made by Google based on Android. It was released on August 11th, 2021, and it was considered to be the first smartwatch that runs Wear OS 3.

The smartwatch introduced new features that came with the transition from Tizen OS to Wear OS, which brought improvements. Also, it included a sensor, called Samsung BioActive, that included body composition analysis, blood pressure monitoring, and EKG measurement. It originally came with One UI 3.0 Watch, and has been updated four times to One UI 8.0 Watch.

Starting from today, changes were made to the list of supported smartwatches for security patches. Unfortunately, the Galaxy Watch4 is no longer supported, which means that users who rely on the Galaxy Watch4 will no longer be able to get further security updates.

This marks the first Galaxy Watch based on Wear OS to no longer get security updates as of today, since the Galaxy Watch3 was no longer supported as of September 2025. Basic functionality will still work, but no new updates are guaranteed.

If you desire to use new features, such as daily cardio load, you’ll have to upgrade to the newer Galaxy Watch, including the Watch9 and the Watch Ultra2 released this year.

  14. Galaxy Watch4 receives the January 2026 update

Samsung has started rolling out a new software update to the Galaxy Watch4 series, starting from Korea, as of today. It brings the January 2026 security patch, along with some stability improvements. The watches will be updated to the following versions:

    • Galaxy Watch4 40mm (BT and Cellular, SM-R860/R865x): JYL6 [KOO]
    • Galaxy Watch4 44mm (BT and Cellular, SM-R870/R875x): JYL6 [KOO]
    • Galaxy Watch4 Classic 40mm (BT and Cellular, SM-R880/R885x): JYL6 [KOO]
    • Galaxy Watch4 Classic 44mm (BT and Cellular, SM-R890/R895x): JYL6 [KOO]

You can now update your smartwatch, but if you still didn’t receive any update, you’ll have to wait for a few days as this rollout is a gradual rollout that starts from Korea. You can periodically check for updates to see if this update has reached your device. We recommend that you update your watch manager in your phone to ensure compatibility with the latest software.

To update your watch, follow these steps:

    • With your phone
      1. Open Galaxy Wearable
      2. Select your watch
      3. Open Watch settings
      4. Navigate to Software Update
      5. Tap Download and Install
      6. Wait until the update shows up, then press Download
      7. Wait until the update gets downloaded and copied to your watch, then press Install
    • With your watch
      1. Open Settings
      2. Navigate to Software update
      3. Tap Download and Install
      4. Wait until the update shows up, then press Download
      5. Wait until it gets downloaded to your watch, then press Install

In an event that something went wrong with copying the update, disconnect your phone from your watch by turning Bluetooth off or by disconnecting it through Galaxy Wearable, then try again from your watch. Make sure to turn Wi-Fi on in your watch to download the update faster.

Make sure that both your phone and your watch are charged before performing the update, and that your internet connection is stable. Never interrupt the update process, or there could be problems later. The update process may take a few minutes to finish, and if it appears to be stuck, just wait for more minutes.

  15. Samsung pulls One UI 8 Watch update for the Galaxy Watch4 and Watch5 as users report issues

A few days after One UI 8 Watch was released for the Galaxy Watch4 and Watch5 users worldwide, they began noticing problems with the watch that were rather serious. Those problems affect normal operation of the watch, and are severe enough that Samsung has started pulling the Galaxy Watch4 and the Watch5 update, starting from the Korean servers, as confirmed by this thread. Earlier, the update was identified as JYK4, which suggests that it was built on November.

An Indian user who updated their Galaxy Watch4 have reported issues with their smartwatch on Samsung Members after they’ve updated their watch to the One UI 8 Watch software, impairing the normal operation of the watch. More specifically, the sensors on the Galaxy Watch4 have begun malfunctioning after the update, such as the wrist detection sensor, which is crucial for any smartwatch. Alongside that, the BIA sensor and the ECG sensor were also not working properly, telling the user that their placement was incorrect. What makes it worse was that even after the reset, the watch still malfunctioned.

To make matters worse, some users reported that they’re not getting the One UI 8 Watch update on their Galaxy Watch4 smartwatches, despite being eligible for the update, and the LTE version users are still waiting for the update in countries like India, USA, and Korea.

Until Samsung pushes the revised version of the Galaxy Watch4 and the Watch5 update, if you haven’t updated your smartwatch, it’s recommended that you hold the update until a newer version is released. You can identify this newer version with either the JYL? build or the JZA? build.

  16. One UI 8 Watch for the Galaxy Watch4 released globally!

Today, Samsung has released One UI 8 Watch for the Galaxy Watch4 series to the majority of the regions, such as the USA and India, which means that regular users can now download the stable version of One UI 8 Watch. This was a very long wait after the release of the stable version of One UI 8 Watch back in July for the Galaxy Watch8 and Watch Ultra.

  18. More Galaxy smartwatches to get One UI 8 Watch soon

One UI 8 Watch was officially released to this year’s smartwatches introduced to us back in July 2025 in the Galaxy Unpacked event. The Galaxy Watch8 and the Watch Ultra have both been provided the One UI 8 Watch software to enable users to use the new features, including the redesigned UI elements (inspired by One UI 7), the Now Bar, and the revamped application listing.

Moreover, the Galaxy Watch7 is still in the beta program, which was released on June 30th, until now, with the Galaxy Watch6 and Watch5 still waiting for their official release, if not for the Beta Program to open.

Nevertheless, we are getting closer and closer to the official One UI 8 release for both the smartphones and the smartwatches, with new features being on the way to the older Galaxy devices when the gradual rollout starts. The Galaxy Watch7 and Watch6 smartwatches are expected to get their One UI 8 Watch update on October 1st according to Güncel Miyiz, but this date may not be the day.

Since the One UI 8 Watch Beta program started, we had the following Beta versions released for the Galaxy Watch7:

    • One UI 8 Watch Beta 1 (build ZYFE): June 30th, 2025
    • One UI 8 Watch Beta 2 (build ZYH2): August 12th, 2025
    • One UI 8 Watch Beta 3 (build ZYHA): August 26th, 2025
    • One UI 8 Watch Beta 4 (build ZYI2): September 5th, 2025
    • One UI 8 Watch Beta 5 (build ZYI4): September 12th, 2025

To recap, here are the new features that will make it to some of the older smartwatches, according to the changelogs:

    One UI 8 Watch Upgrade

    Get things done

Stay on top of important tasks with the Now bar
Check the information you need right now and start essential features straight from your watch face. Ongoing tasks will appear in the Now bar at the bottom of your watch face so you can check key information quickly.

    Do more with double pinch
Just pinch your thumb and index finger together twice to scroll through notifications, control music, take pictures, and more. You can also customize what happens when you double pinch on the watch face, music controller, as well as alarm, calendar, and reminder alerts. Choose the actions you need most in each situation.

    Mark reminders as important
Mark reminders as important by tapping the Star icon. Important reminders will appear at the top of your reminder list to make sure you notice them.

    Get reminders at specific places
You can now set location-based reminders on your watch. For example, you can make your watch remind you to do the laundry when you arrive at home.

    New charging effects
When your watch is charging, the new screen layout and animations make it easier to check the current battery level and remaining charging time.

    Stay connected

Easily respond to notifications and alerts
Use gestures to quickly respond to notifications and alerts. When a notification appears, you can double pinch to view the details or send a reply. You can also shake your wrist to return to the watch face.

    Enhanced notification view
Notifications on your watch are now easier to use with an attractive new design. Notifications from the same app are stacked vertically, allowing you to view more notifications with fewer swipes.

    Smarter notification settings
It’s now easier to decide how to receive notifications from your phone on your watch. If you choose Smart device selection, notifications will appear on your phone only when you’re using it and on your watch when you’re not using your phone. If you choose Always show on both, notifications will always appear on both your phone and watch.

    Upgrade your health

    Bedtime guidance
Get to sleep at the right time so you wake up feeling refreshed. The new Bedtime guidance feature analyzes your sleep data and recommends the best time to go to sleep each night.

    Mindfulness
Manage stress and anxiety in your daily life with the new Mindfulness feature in Samsung Health. You can keep track of your moods and emotions and practice breathing exercises to reduce stress.

    Tailored to you

    Find the perfect watch face
It’s now easier to find the watch face that’s right for you. Just choose a few keywords such as your preferred style, color, and information to show. The best matches will be suggested from our collection of more than 300 watch faces.

    Recommended watch faces
Discover new watch faces that you might like. Watch faces with colors, style, or information similar to your current watch face will be recommended on the watch face selection screen.

    Create your own tiles
Create your own custom tiles that show the information you need. You can even combine information from different apps into a single tile. You can include weather information, calendar events, reminders, and more.

    Personalized Apps screen
Featured apps now appear at the top of your Apps screen to give you quick access to the apps you need the most. Apps will be featured based on how often you use them and other usage patterns. You can also view your apps as a list with names instead of only icons.

Choose calendars to show on your watch
You can now choose which calendars to show in the Calendar app on your watch. You can show all of the same calendars that are on your phone or customize to show only the calendars you need.

The following smartwatches are eligible to get the One UI 8 Watch update:

    • Galaxy Watch Ultra (rolled out)
    • Galaxy Watch7
    • Galaxy Watch6
    • Galaxy Watch5
    • Galaxy Watch4
    • Galaxy Watch FE

We are looking forward for future Galaxy Watch updates for the One UI 8 Watch update, which is expected to start its rollout soon.

  21. Wear OS 5.1 comes out in preparation for One UI 7 Watch

As One UI 7 stable release gets closer, Google started rolling out the Wear OS 5.1 update to its smartwatches. Currently, the update is available on Pixel Watch 2 and 3 smartwatches and it will be expanded to more smartwatches from different brands.

This new version of Wear OS is based on Android 15 released last year, and it improves the performance of your smartwatch to make it snappier than before. In addition to that, it introduces some more features that make your smartwatch smarter and more useful.

With the addition of Credential Manager, you can now manage your sign-in information, including your passwords and passkeys across multiple devices. Your credentials are stored securely in one place. It also brings the Watch Speaker Playback feature for smartwatches that support built-in speakers as audio output. You can now choose the watch speakers as the media output on supported smartwatches.

In the Pixel Watch 3, a new feature has been added that detects loss of pulse, which should help in emergency situations. The FDA has recently approved this feature.

We are speculating that One UI 7 Watch will use this version of Wear OS as a base to incorporate One UI 7 design elements to your Galaxy smartwatches. One UI 7 Watch will be available on Galaxy Watch7, Watch Ultra, and older eligible smartwatches, with a possible beta program starting in June for all eligible smartwatches.

  22. Some Galaxy Watch4 LTE units get One UI 6 Watch

Three months ago, Samsung have released the One UI 6 Watch for all the eligible smartwatches that include Galaxy Watch6, Watch5, and Watch4 in both the Bluetooth and the LTE variants. The rollout was very fast if you take a look at the surface level, with the rollout starting from the Galaxy Watch6 series.

After a long wait for users that didn’t get the One UI 6 Watch system for their Galaxy Watch4 LTE, we have finally spotted Samsung releasing this version of One UI for more Galaxy Watch4 LTE units in more countries, such as India.

To update your watch, open Galaxy Wearable on your phone and navigate to Watch settings > Watch software update > Download and Install. If you saw the One UI 6 update, you can now download it to your watch. However, if you still can’t get this update, wait for the update in the coming days or weeks, depending on your smartwatch and your country.

  23. Some Galaxy Watch4 LTE units still haven’t received One UI 6 Watch

Going deeper, we’ve noticed that the Galaxy Watch4 LTE users in different regions, most notably the Indian regions, still haven’t received the One UI 6 Watch update as of today.

In Australia, One UI 6 Watch for LTE variants for the Galaxy Watch4 smartwatch has been released back on January 14th, 2025, while the Bluetooth variant got it a month earlier on December 10th, 2024. All LTE smartwatches are supposed to receive the IXK1 update by now, but several regions, such as India, have not received the update yet and are still stuck on the HXB7 update that runs One UI 5 Watch which added a feature that allows you to see your workout status on Samsung televisions released on 2024.

In the coming weeks, we hope that the update will be released for such variants to finalize the rollout of One UI 6 Watch for the Galaxy Watch4 series released back on 2021. This is unusual, since it reminded us of some flagship devices that didn’t receive the One UI 6.0 update, such as the Galaxy Tab S8 and S9, until last February.

  24. Galaxy Watch5 Manager gets an update

As Samsung is getting ready to release the One UI 6 Watch update, the Galaxy Watch5 Manager also gets an update. Apparently, users in differing countries have reported that they’ve received the Galaxy Watch5 Manager update for the Galaxy Watch5 smartwatch.

This version of the Galaxy Watch5 Manager provides a new GUI and three One UI 6 Watch watchfaces that consist of the following:

    • Spatial Number: numbers constructed from 3D shapes give a sense of depth over a background that changes color as the second hand moves.
    • Simple Digital: a clean, simple design that keeps you focused on the time. The seconds are displayed in a circle around the minutes.
    • Ultra Info Band: This watch face puts your health data front and center, with more advanced complications than ever before. You can include up to 7 complications for the ultimate in info at a glance.

  25. Galaxy Watch6 Manager gets an update

UPDATE: The Watch6 manager update continues its rollout to more countries and regions! Find more here!

As Samsung is getting ready to release the One UI 6 Watch update, the Galaxy Watch6 Manager also gets an update. Apparently, the Reddit users have reported that they’ve received the Galaxy Watch6 Manager update for the Galaxy Watch6 smartwatch, which is expected to get the new system update on November 25th, 2024, which is ten days from now.

However, the Watch5 Manager hasn’t been updated yet, which aligns with how both the Watch5 and the Watch4 got the One UI 6 Watch Beta 8 update that was released yesterday, while Samsung also reiterated in the USA forums about how the Beta for the Watch6 has been concluded.

Going back as far as September 25th, Samsung has released a new version of the Galaxy Watch4 Manager that provided the One UI 6 Watch watchfaces to all the Galaxy Watch4 units that weren’t running the beta version of One UI 6 Watch. However, we’d like to reiterate that Sammy Fans and others might have misled users into thinking that the Galaxy Watch5 and Watch6 users could download the One UI 6 Watch watchfaces.

This version of the Galaxy Watch6 Manager, which is 2.2.13.24101651, provides a new GUI and three One UI 6 Watch watchfaces that consist of the following:

    • Spatial Number: numbers constructed from 3D shapes give a sense of depth over a background that changes color as the second hand moves.
    • Simple Digital: a clean, simple design that keeps you focused on the time. The seconds are displayed in a circle around the minutes.
    • Ultra Info Band: This watch face puts your health data front and center, with more advanced complications than ever before. You can include up to 7 complications for the ultimate in info at a glance.

This version of the watch manager is built on October 16th, 2024, which is two days before the eighth beta of the new operating system for the Watch6, which should be unveiled 10 days from now.

However, the new version can’t be currently downloaded from Google Play Store, because this version is currently rolling out to several countries soon. Those who have downloaded the Galaxy Watch6 plugin from Galaxy Store should expect a new update.
