  1. Listening to Gideon Coe. In ten minutes if I'm still awake I'll have to switch to the local election coverage, and sticking with #SamCoates on Sky News throughout the night and then #SophyRidge for the rest of the day. Probably going to miss most of it as I'm so tired. But recording and quite anxious despite not wanting anyone to do well. There are no parties registering in the polls that float my boat.

  6. Many of those who've argued most enthusiastically about getting journalists onto Mastodon paint a picture of them that I don't share, at least not completely. I'm very critical of most of them, but obviously not all. I enjoy listeing to ten Sky News broadcasters, top of my list being #SamCoates and Sophy #Ridge; can't remember the names of all the rest as they don't get as much airtime as they deserve. But we should entice even journalists we dislike. Let's criticize them, diplomatically.

  7. @Sanlear @RickiTarr I agree with a lot of this. That site will collapse over time, not overnight. But I won't denounce all journalists as as bad as each other. I'm currently very happy with up to ten @SkyNewsBot journalists, esp #SamCoates and Sophy #Ridge. I want them here and would Boost most of what they post. With others I'll see what they say. If/when I disagree, I'll take issue with them, using hashtags to get things trending they'll hate. Mastodon must aspire to replace birdsite asap.

  8. I'm really looking forward to Sophy #Ridge's interviews this morning. And #SamCoates's take on what Liz Truss and Boris Johnson is doing. I think both will find it hard to keep a straight face while discussing Liz Truss. I find their plotting comebacks as absolutely hilarious. I think Tory MPs have reached the stage where they know they're facing electoral armageddon. Given that they're just settling old scores. They're pre demob happy. They're zombies eating the insides of each others heads.

  9. Btw, in addition following anyone using the #SocialistSunday hashtag today, I'll be watching Sophy #Ridge's one and a half hours of interviews, with her sidekick, @SkyNewsBot's deputy political editor #SamCoates. I'd watch it just to hear what they've got to say. But this week they've actually got a decent guest: Matt Wrack. I suggest all socialists watch it live if possible, starts at 8:30am, or on catch up. Use the hashtag to exchange ideas on how to take on every shade of Tories.

  10. Dominic Raab has insisted he won't resign. That's very interesting given what Sophy #Ridge and #SamCoates said earlier today, about how this could help Rishi Sunak. I'm reminded of Liz Truss's chancellor saying the same and then got sacked as he returned to the UK by plane after insisting he's going nowhere. Sunak had to sack Nadhim Zahawi a few days ago. Looks like he'll have to sacrifice his deputy Prime Minister too. If he won't resign he'll have to be sacked within a few weeks.

  11. @Didactylos I no longer have a large number of political broadcasters I listen to carefully. But Sky News does have about ten I take seriously with the best being #SamCoates and Sophy #Ridge. I'd love to see Faisal Islam getting a higher profile but the BBC seem keen to bury him away: such a waste.

  12. As Sam Coates points out, Nadhim Zahawi's 'resigntation' letter didn't apologize for doing the things that got him sacked. Additionally, he's explicitly attacked the press that exposed his wrong doing, especially attacked the paper that began exposing his behavior. I agree with #SamCoates: Zahawi's career is going to end. Sam is less definite about that than I am.

  13. @AlisonCreekside I did send an invitation to #SamCoates a long time ago and would be happy to do the same for Sophy #Ridge. But #ElonMusk bans all tweets that uses these invitations and has done for months.

  14. I've so little confidence in UK's msm broadcasters that I rarely enjoy any news or politics programs. I've been so disappointed for so long that I've basically boycotted virtually all of it. I knew I liked Sophy #Ridge, or have done for about a year after she went through a bad patch. But she's been excellent. I so wish she had a Mastodon account so I and others could not just Boost her, but offer any constructive criticism if we feel we need to do that. Same goes for #SamCoates.

  15. I watched #SamCoates and Sophy #Ridge on the Take first. But I've got round to watching her one hour program and she's doing an excellent job. Everyone should watch this if they can.

  16. I want #SamCoates on Mastodon asap. But I'm happy to offer him constructive criticism wherever I can. Since he's not here I'll suggest to him that his explanation for why Rishi Sunak's govt won't negotiate over this years pay doesn't work. The question is who is to blame for NHS strikes. If Sunak doesn't like what Unite's asking for they should offer workers something lower which members might accept. In other words, he WANTS these strikes. The question is: why? #SocialistSunday #Ridge

  17. Anyone who reads my posts on Mastodon will know how big a fan I am of @SkyNewsBot's deputy political editor, #SamCoates. However, I just caught the last few minutes of Sophy #Ridge's program, the Take. And he, imho, got something a bit wrong. He challenged Unite's general secretary on the govt's behavior. She offered 3 possibilities and Sam suggested another. He said maybe the govt just doesn't want to settle the pay dispute on Unite's terms. But that does NOT explain why they won't discuss pay.

  18. Not heard Sophy #Ridge's interviews, yet. I went to The Take first to hear #SamCoates analysis. This is dynamite stuff. If you missed this program, you should catch up. Looks to me like Rishi Sunak is repeating exactly the same problems that led to Boris Johnson's downfall. And he doesn't have the backing Johnson had from the membership and a significant number of MPs because they thought he could get them votes that Sunak quite obviously can not.

  19. Only just out of bed. Missed one of the few politics programs I look forward to Sophy #Ridge's show and even more the following one which includes her and #SamCoates. Watching now. Very impressed, as usual. Hope both set up Mastodon accounts asap, and I hope their network does too: #SkyNews.

  20. Someone said on Sky News this morning - I think it was Liz Bates - that while many MPs asked about #SamCoates's #WestminsterAccounts items was a good thing, once the cameras got switched off they told Sky News what they really think: they're angry. This is excellent. Keir Starmer is as angry as Rishi Sunak is: both of them are funded by strike breaking rich businessmen. Both want to crush trade unionists. Neither is worthy of my vote. #EnoughIsEnough #SocialistSunday #Ridge

  21. Sophy #Ridge did an excellent job. Her colleague who stood in for #SamCoates this week did not. She is another msm 'jouralist' who has simply become a cheerleader for Keir Starmer. Sky News has quite a few such people, including Beth Rigby and Kay Burley. But, unlike all the other news channels they've got as many as ten journalists challenging both Tories and Keir Starmer. Those are real journalists. Voters won't accept a a choice of so called 'lesser evil'. #EnoughIsEnough #SocialistSunday

  22. Keir Starmer's supporters have been getting away with murder in the msm. Broadcasters haven't done their job. Thankfully Sophy #Ridge and #SamCoates don't play by these rules. Both expose the massive weaknesses in this so called opposition as much as they do Rishi Sunak's supporters and all the warring factions within the Tory Party. #SocialistSunday #EnoughIsEnough

  23. youtu.be/3hp5bBQU_M4 #WestminsterAccounts This video from YouTube isn't easily accessible from #ElonMusk's site. Not sure if there's a political reason for that or something else. Hope it's available to Mastodon users. Spent some time on the other place retweeting lots of #SamCoates tweets. We need to encourage journalists of his caliber to set up accounts here asap.

  24. Keir Starmer and Jonathan Ashworth have both said they welcome transparency introduced by #SamCoates. However, I think both are probably, secretly, livid with the major donor who's donated twenty thousand pounds to Keir Starmer while donating to Just Stop Oil. Labour's leader will wish he had shut his gob. He'll soon tell the JSO backers to stop giving anyone in Labour any money. He'll expel any member who takes money from their backers. #WestminsterAccounts #EnoughIsEnough

  25. I wish Mastodon members on the other place tweeted to individual journalists there to set up accounts here. We need the likes of #SamCoates here asap. #WestminsterAccounts

  26. Sam Coates is now dealing with the question of MPs making donations to charity. However, which charities? And how much are they donating? Maybe their charitable donations are to private schools, in other words, they're stealing from the poorest in order to subsidize the private education for their own children and grandchildren. #WestminsterAccounts #SamCoates

  27. A large percentage of the 17 million quid going to MPs who treat being an MP as a part time job goes to ex Prime Ministers. Keir Starmer echoes Tony Blair in thinking that those who become PM should be free to get paid more in one hour than a nurse gets in an entire year. This is repugnant. No wonder Labour MPs struggle to get the top job and don't want to tax the rich. They want to be the rich and to screw the rest of us. #WestminsterAccounts #SamCoates

  28. The mainstream media, msm, is controlled by the rich and powerful. Isn't it interesting that those paid by billionaire bosses attack trade unionists going on strike simply to stop real cuts in their wages while the bosses get richer and richer? Coincidence? I don't think so. A few broadcasters actually do a decent job. But they are few and far between these days. And I can't find any of them on Mastodon, yet. We need to get them here pronto. #SamCoates?

  29. Can I ask everyone who sees this if they know of British journalists/broadcasters specializing in politics who have set up a Mastodon account? I've heard some are here but are complaining no one follows or Boosts them. While I only followed a handful on #birdsite, I'd probably follow most of them here if I know where they are. If I disagree with what they toot I won't Boost it, but I'll comment on it. That in itself should motivate them to let everyone know they're here. Is #SamCoates here yet?
