@Mellando ja, habe auch vorher #TravisBaldree gelesen und #RebeccaThorne fühlt sich nicht ganz so rund an, aber auch kein schlichtes Rip-Off. Habe mir den zweiten Band via Libby/Overdrive reserviert - 14 Wochen Wartezeit bei HCPL, "mehrere Monate" bei der Queer Liberation Library QLL. Aber ich habe ja auch noch etwas #RFKuang und seit gestern den neuesten von #SamanthaShannon, auf Papier vor mir - und Edward Underhill "In Between Bookstore" und #DevaFagan "House of Dusk" wollen gehört werden.

A couple of weeks or so ago, I finished the currently published pieces of the Masquerade series (The Traitor/Monster/Tyrant Baru Cormorant). Highly recommend. I know some folks have complaints about the second and third installments, and did not finish them. However, I disagree and recommend reading through the series back to back to ensure all the context is fresh. The puzzle pieces fit together much more nicely that way. I was able to piece together most of the plan and the author left in extra clues that seemed intentional. The additional clues references key moments from earlier books so having context was definitely useful.

I'm currently making my way through The Bone Season series (Samantha Shannon) and will be picking up The Mask Falling later this weekend. Also on my list of recommendations, but definitely aim for the author's preferred text editions if possible. She revised the books in preparation for the latest installment (The Dark Mirror) and things have been adjusted a bit.

Last non DoctorWho audiobook finished was "The Final Strife", book one of the #EndingFire trilogy by Saara El-Arifi, started because #SamanthaShannon had recommended it with high praise. It's #queer #afrofuturism in a #fantasy world with a healthy dose of class struggle and anti racism/classism. #Audiobook via OverdriveBW/Libby. 5/5* do recommend. Loved the unexpected aspects of the magic system and the handling of non-magic as a disability in Anoor. A great debut! @bookstodon

#FinishedReading (as an ebook because I'm travelling) #SamanthaShannon's Roots of Chaos series is epic and stunning, but this series is pure popcorn and feels like she was having a holiday writing it: sexy vampire-esque creatures, magical gangsters, constant twists and betrayals, heapings of supernatural violence; it's the sort of book where a villain's most potent weapon is the enslaved poltergeist of Jack the Ripper. #Bookstodon @bookstodon

Loving “The Priory of the Orange Tree.” Great world building, compelling narrative and characters, and good to see some fantasy cliches turned on their head. It seems rushed somehow, though; I wonder if it could have been two volumes with a little less speeding through some of the story. I'M SO EXCITED RIGHT NOW!!! I just finished reading #ThePrioryOfTheOrangeTree by #SamanthaShannon a few minutes ago (took me 6 months, but I loved it!) and now I'm about to start a book my husband gave me for Christmas last year: #HouseOfLeaves by #MarkZDanielewski . I've been dying to read it, but I know it'll take me a while so I wanted to make sure I finished Priory first.
