Sam Amidon has a special touch, especially with traditional folk songs. Our #SongoftheDay "Maggie" is his take on the frequently covered Appalachian tune "Little Maggie". Moody and dynamic at the same time.

Tonight: another magical set from Sam Amidon. In some ways, almost identical to the last time he played Brooklyn, in most others a completely different hallucination. Playing at the cozy Owl Music Parlor with fellow magicians Shahzad Ismaily and Thomas "Doveman" Bartlett and sit-ins from Oren Bloedow and Charlotte Greve. Musical world building at its finest at Sam's spellbinding intersection of folk and free-flow jazz.

Tonight: plans changed a couple times, but got off the waitlist at the last minute and thank goodness. I always leave a Sam Amidon feeling like it was the best thing ever and tonight no different, maybe more so. His unpredictable unique-perspective folk really hit the spot. Always gives a very different feel while staying true to his overall vision. A wonderful just-what-I-needed at Public Records.

Haven't posted any of my livemusic since Florida, but...
Tonight: Sam Amidon with Bill Frisell, Shahzad Ismaily, Chris Vatalaro. Maybe the best thing I've seen this year. LPR was under the spell where Amidon's off-kilter mountain folk meets Frisell & Co's wispy wizard jazz. My word, that was some magic like few are. Bill was at his peak, doing all the Frisellian things to perfection.
