  2. Train derailment, Manawatu Gorge, 1946-08

Engine driver Basil Craighead and Fireman R Hoskins drowned when their 140 tonne goods train was derailed by a slip and fell into the flooded Manawatu River on 20 August 1946. The steam engine sank under the flood waters and reappeared when they receded four days later. It took several days to recover the engine in pieces. Three of the 24 wagons also fell down the 20 metre bank, and were winched out six days after the crash.

  8. i am not planning on doing long haul trucking, it is just a around town work truck - perfect, I like chevy, cheap junkyard parts. the engine mpg is sort of a downside, upside is more capacity can haul like 16k on trailer or 3k in bed #salvage

  12. A few hours ago I had the chance to capture the #metalcore #band #Salvage live at 📍 #Willemeen in #Arnhem
I’ve put together this official showreel for the band to highlight the energy of the performance.
You can watch the high-resolution version on their Instagram page.

  13. Also today: stopped in at Dymocks, saw this heartening table of books by authors who withdrew from Writers Week, and signed the copies of #Salvage I found there

  15. Made a little decal to stick on the soundlogic tws earbuds I nabbed from Buy Nothing event yesterday!! It unfortunately(?) hides the brand due to the placement but now I won't mix it up if we both accidentally drop our earbuds. I used scrap vinyl from another project! #salvage #buyNothing

  16. I've started ripping up worn out flannel nighties to make a rag rug, with worn out flannel sheets to follow shortly. It's a surprisingly peaceful occupation (RRRIIIPPPPPP).

  18. Slapped together a shelf for storing tools and supplies in house.

Made from parts of the previous owner's bed and some studs salvaged from the toilet cubicle I tore out.

No finished picture because I immediately loaded it full with stuff (hence the need for a shelf).

Total cost: A couple screws, one sawblade and a few kWh of angle grinder use to sand the studs (optional).

  21. Today I nearly cleared the mending basket.
Mostly darning: jersey underarm, cardigan cuff and elbow, sleeveless pullover neckline and hem (used a combo darn/blanket stitch for that one; will see how it wears), cotton skirt, muslin curtain, and knitted slipper.

I also deconstructed a pair of insufficiently durable socks into a) balls of reusable yarn, b) short lengths for toy stuffing, and c) quantities of green fluff all over self, cat, freshly vacuumed carpet, etc. One more pair to deconstruct, then I can start my next sewing project.
