My whippet Castorp has a friend and running mate, Sata, a #Saluki.

We went for tea to Sata's place. Salukis are gentle but aloof, aristocratic desert hunters that bond only with the gov'nor. But today when I sat down, Sata came over and sat down next to me, and she graciously let me scratch her head. A magic moment.

Later she curled up on the sofa by the fire. Half asleep, dreaming with her eyes open, her body twitching nervously as she chased a gazelle.

Got a new dog sitting booking for a pair of Saluki/greyhound cross lurchers in May. I've seen some photos and they look adorable, and I'm told their temperament is great too. 😍

My Castorp is friends with Norma, my neighbour's elegant ageing Saluki. They run together up on the hill.

I say they are friends, well, it's hard to tell with an aloof lady such as Norma. She's a rescue and finds it hard to trust any creature. But she graciously lets my young Castorp fuss over her, and when they run she does not kill him. I love her.
