  6. We've planted out thousands of saltmarsh plants this month.
    That means we've got space in the poly tunnel to grow more cuttings!
    The polytunnel sessions start back in April, there will be a bit of washing pots along side the propagation, as it's better to reuse than recycle.
    Small pots for the grasses, medium for the Sea Club Rush.

  7. Another muddy planting day today.
    Today’s group were planting sea club rush in the Eden Estuary.
    A successful planting day - all the plants we brought were planted.
    We are still looking for more volunteers in Dornoch on the 24 & 25 March
    Sign up at [email protected] to join in the planting.

    @HI_Greens please spread the word!

  8. The Sea Club Rush (Bolboschoenus maritimus) root system showing why it does such a good job of trapping sediment and resisting the pull of the tide.
    The contour lines of the container it was growing in are still retained when it is lifted out.

  9. One of the less glamorous* jobs we do to help restore saltmarsh is wash the minimal plastic polypots we use to grow the cuttings on.
    There were plenty to wash after planting nearly 4000 plants earlier in the year.
    After washing we can reuse them for the next set of cuttings.

    *yes, planting saltmarsh in the mud is glamorous- for a certain value of glamor

  10. The other week we were up in Dornoch, working with some Dornoch Academy S1 and S3 classes.
    They did great a great job of taking cuttings and potting them on, now we'll have more plants for saltmarsh restoration in Dornoch firth.
