The farewell concerts of Eppu Normaali, the best-selling Finnish rock band of all time, are dominating the national news this weekend. The last of the three sold-out stadium concerts is currently being recorded by YLE, the Finnish national broadcasting company, and the spectacle will be shown on the TV1 channel on the Finnish independence day in December.
Eppu Normaali started out as a punk band in the late 1970s, and early in their career, they were witty and fun. I liked them quite a bit back in the day, up until the mid- or late 1980s, but to a large extent lost interest after that, although their music continued to be enjoyed by new generations of fans.
