So I ordered a #jollaphone (2026), and it was delivered last month.
I tried very hard to get it to work. But there are virtually no communication apps in the store, the maps app cannot fetch any location, the promised android apps just straight up do not work, and the device has an annoying pulsating light on the backside that cannot be switched off.
I opened bug reports, but received no help.
I contacted #jolla directly for repairs, and received no answer.
I am disappointed.
I tested #sailfishos on a sony xperia iii a few years ago, and it was nice, apart from the abyssmal call quality. I thought that would be better on their own hardware. But no. -

@molan @poetaster OK, taking release early, release often a bit too far ... 1.4.2 was quickly superseded by 1.4.3 which dealt with a bug introduced by 1.4.2, go figure. This release fixes a translations issue and finally properly handles links from the masto account plugin. Sigh. #tooter #SailfishOs

@frankps I would like to give a try to #SailfishOS on an old Samsung Galaxy S4.
I have read the procedure - linked by community hw adaptations post on forum.sailfishos.org. In 2022 it required rooting and then flashing of #TWRP and #LineageOS v17.1 first.
But LOS now has something called samloader-rs, which builds on heimdall, for easy flashing on Samsung devices. Apparently without needing root privileges. Do you have any experience with it?
Must admit I am not an Android user so this is all new for me. Thanks for sharing.

Je suis tombé complètement par hasard sur la facture du Xperia XA2. Elle date du 24 novembre 2018.
Sachant que j’avais flashé Sailfish OS 3.0.0.5 dans la foulée (j’ai juste testé vite-fait le téléphone sous Android 8 pour vérifier que tout fonctionnait), ça fera donc 8 ans que j’uilise cet OS au quotidien. Ça explique aussi la longévité du téléphone et le fait de ne pas en avoir changé entretemps. Enfin, j’ai fini par basculer sur le Jolla Phone (2026), JP2601. -
those who complain that sailfish os is not like android or ios should not try to use it.
but just like always: every journey starts with a first step. if you do not start to get away from the monopolies then you will never get away. i think, @jolla is really worth it.

@ploum reminds me of of my recent discussion with an electrician - I declined the suggested replacement extractor fan with Bluetooth and an App. They seemed to take my “one more thing to break” reasoning in their stride.
My spouse really did hold out with no smart phone until about last year. Meanwhile I’m about to switch to #SailfishOS #JollaPhone 🤞

Announcing ver. 1.4.2 of #tooter, your' friendly neighborhood #Sailfishos masto client. Mostly bug fixes but with initial handling of masto account notification links. Odd handling. We are all my guinea pigs :-) coming to chum & harbour and with assistance from @molan to open repos. If you wish, wait for proper link resolution in a couple of weeks.

Dzień cudów normalnie. Jadę pociagiem do Warszawy, normalnie przegladam internet i piszę na fedi z komórki. Nie ma dziur w zasięgu, a wagon nie robi klatki Faradaya.
No i już oficjalnie przeszedłem na SailfishOS, nawet klawiatura fizyczna BT pomiłowała i od całych 2 dni współpracuje (wsparcia dla polskich znaków nie ma na razie, więc ratuję się miksem przewidywania tekstu i zminiaturyzowanej klawiatury ekranowej jako pomocniczej). Jednak kiedy Wielki Brat nie patrzy, jakoś łatwiej w życiu.Jedyne, co mnie wkurza, to żałośnie mała bateria Xperii... półtora dnia i do ładowania. No ale dobrze, kupiłem używkę i należało się z tym liczyć. #sailfishos

The list of missing native apps is getting shorter! I love Fediverse and I was absolutely thrilled to see. Peertube Sail being released yesterday. I connected it to https://friprogramvarusyndikatet.tv and watched a video of the new Jolla Phone. Enjoy!

This one has also been an excuse to try to develop a solution to have a lightweight CI that can run tests without the sailfishos SDK. So it uses #dukpy #python #javascript interpreter to test the logic with #pytest and a fake #silica implementation with qmltestrunner to run the UI tests.
My plan is to release the fake silica as its own project once it's refined enough
