Szybki rozwój algorytmów generatywnych coraz częściej zderza się z oporem użytkowników, którzy chcą mieć pełną kontrolę nad swoim wizerunkiem w sieci.

Koncern Meta, zaledwie kilka dni po premierze nowego narzędzia tekst-na-obraz o nazwie Muse Image, podjął decyzję o usunięciu jego najbardziej kontrowersyjnej opcji. Zaledwie wczoraj pisaliśmy o tym pomyśle, który od razu wzbudził ogromne emocje w mediach społecznościowych – dziś gigant technologiczny wycofuje się z rozwiązania umożliwiającego przetwarzanie publicznych fotografii przez osoby trzecie.

Twój profil na Instagramie jako cyfrowy surowiec. Nowe narzędzie Mety wywołuje skandal

Dla nas, jako użytkowników sieci, to ważny precedens. Pokazuje on, że skoordynowana presja społeczna i branżowa potrafi skutecznie wpłynąć na rozwój funkcji opartych na sztucznej inteligencji oraz zmusić cyfrowe korporacje do rewizji swoich planów.

Przerabianie zdjęć jako materiał źródłowy

Narzędzie, które zadebiutowało kilka dni temu w ramach chatbota Meta AI, dawało użytkownikom możliwość bezpośredniego wpływania na cudzą zawartość. W ramach nowej funkcji możliwe było otagowanie publicznego profilu na Instagramie, aby algorytm pobrał znajdujące się tam fotografie i wykorzystał je jako materiał źródłowy do wygenerowania nowej, zmodyfikowanej przez sztuczną inteligencję grafiki.

Największe kontrowersje wzbudził fakt, że Meta zastosowała tu mechanizm domyślnej zgody. Wszyscy posiadacze kont publicznych spełniający warunki nowej funkcji zostali automatycznie włączeni do systemu (model opt-out). Osoby, które nie wyrażały zgody na to, by ich zdjęcia były wykorzystywane jako podkład dla algorytmów przez obcych ludzi, musiały samodzielnie odszukać odpowiednią opcję blokady w ustawieniach prywatności.

Błyskawiczny odwrót i oficjalne stanowisko Mety

Możliwość niekontrolowanej modyfikacji cudzego wizerunku wywołała natychmiastowy protest m.in. amerykańskiego związku zawodowego aktorów SAG-AFTRA, który wezwał internautów do ochrony swoich profilów. Głosy sprzeciwu poparła również brytyjska organizacja Privacy International, krytykując traktowanie publicznych galerii użytkowników jako surowca do swobodnej obróbki dla modeli generatywnych.

W oficjalnym oświadczeniu przedstawiciele Mety przyznali, że w tym przypadku firma „chybiła celu” (we missed the mark) i podjęli decyzję o wycofaniu kontrowersyjnej opcji ze struktury serwerowej. Koncern deklaruje, że intencją było dostarczenie przydatnego, kreatywnego narzędzia, jednak skala negatywnego feedbacku zmusiła deweloperów do zmiany planów. Zamknięcie tego projektu na Instagramie nie oznacza jednak końca ofensywy – Meta nadal planuje głęboką integrację narzędzi generatywnych AI w aplikacjach WhatsApp, Facebook oraz Messenger.
