@reallyedbrown I get the instinct — but this isn’t the same thing as Labor preferencing the Greens.
Labor and the Greens compete within the same broad voter base. The Liberals just boosted a party that’s actively replacing them.
By preferencing One Nation, the Liberal Party of Australia didn’t “keep it in the family” — they accelerated their own decline. You don’t hand your voters to a rival and expect them back later.
That’s not strategy. That’s self-sabotage. -
The LNP didn’t just lose seats in SA — they handed them over.
By preferencing Pauline Hanson’s One Nation ahead of Labor, they turbocharged the very party now eating their vote.Result? One Nation outpolls the Liberals (22% vs 19%) and replaces them as the main opposition in parts of the state.
You can’t chase the far right without feeding it.
Short term tactics. Long term extinction. -

@Steveg58 It's almost as if the ABC's been infiltrated by Murdoch vibes
And let's be real: that One Nation vote is a classic anti-LNP protest, not anti-Labor—disgruntled Lib voters jumping ship, handing Malinauskas an even bigger win. Facts over narrative, please. -
Another election, another landslide Labor victory – Peter Malinauskas and Labor smash it with what will their biggest win in history, grabbing a massive majority while the Liberals get obliterated.
But our Murdoch-controlled mainstream media? Obsessed with harping on about One Nation's protest vote instead of reporting the actual story: the huge endorsement of Labor's record. Facts? Not their priority. -
@luciedigitalni Lots of people who would usually have voted Liberal seem to have voted PHON instead. I don't think it's unreasonable to call that a "shift to the right".
-
CW: splitters
@NewtonMark It appears some PHON volunteers were trying to rectify the situation by writing preferences into the how to vote cards... (which is quite illegal).

@sinjut I've generally skipped Henry Lawson's overtly political stuff because it always seemed hopelessly dated. I'll have to go back and catch up.
I've always enjoyed "A Word to Texas Jack", but not the politics (nor the odd historical slur).
-
@glent with a few exceptions the two pollies on the panel were pretty polite. Anne Ruston kept trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, Tom K. mostly managed to contain his passive-aggressive glee..
-
@sinjut They dismissed him very abruptly at the end of the interview. It was like "OK thanks, now fuck off". Got the distinct impression they really didn't want to give him the time of day, so not sure why they did.
-
"Underestimating Vincent Tarzier is difficult" LOL.
Tom Koutsantonis meant "overestimate", but it's still funny :-)
-
OMG the word "Greens" was just uttered by the SA Deputy Premier!
-
What's happening with the Greens in SA? As far as I can tell, the ABC has not uttered the word "Green" in the half hour or more that the coverage has been running. I've seen a poster or two in the background of the video coverage, so they do seem to be fielding candidates.

@mativity The spending gap is wild. Liberals outspending Labor 3:1 on advertising but still trailing in the polls. The more interesting question is whether those flyers are even trying to win seats or just prevent a total wipeout to One Nation.
-
I’m being bombarded with Liberal party flyers and ads this week ( all of which I shred and dump in the bin). Even appearing on YouTube. Same tubby pasty-faced middle-aged white male in a crumpled suit promising sweeties 💤😴
Could there be a state election coming?
Can they really not find someone more interesting?
