After the Sacramento Gold Miners joined the Canadian Football League in 1993 and despite some scepticism and opposition, the league sought to grow its footprint in the United States with additional teams in 1994 and 1995. The #CFL's American expansion started thanks to the World League of American Football (#WLAF) - which had 10 teams in US/Canada/Europe from 1991-2. The #SacramentoSurge won #WorldBowl II - only to have the league suspend operations from 1993-4 and return as Europe-only in 1995.
In 1993 the Surge owner, front office, & several players morphed into the #SacramentoGoldMiners to become 1st #CFL team in United States.
