Pareri? Consigli sul disco da acquistare? Grazie 😊

  2. Of the more recent #USB drive enclosures, 3 of 7 #Orico brand, and 1 of 2 #Maiwo failed after 1 or 2 years. 1 of 2 #Sabrent arrived defective. They accepted the warranty claim and shipped a replacement on Feb 28 but at 6 PM the tracking changed from “out for delivery” to “carrier delay.” Sabrent insists I wait for the enclosure to show up. I don’t know why that would magically happen after 9 business days.

Old USB 2 and FireWire enclosures were tanks. The drive always failed first. …

  3. I was timing two simultaneous runs of my container hot-copies across my lan today to two different servers.

I am wondering if the time difference is storage-driven or CPU driven. Both are to NVMe-backed zpools but one is Gen 3 () and the other is Gen 4 (). It's over a network but even so, I wouldn't really expect storage or cpu to be a "bottleneck" here as I thought the network would be the weak link by miles (even at 10G). I find this a little interesting.

  4. It's (re-)build time for me, as I prepare to make some overly complicated and certainly overdue changes to my self-hosting setup.

This is part of a plan to replace a remote laptop that I use to store backups that have been more important to me than they ever should be. I'm retiring an ancient device and will replace it with a "low power" 1st-gen Epyc server that I use for local backups, and my new local backup is going to be, well, "somewhat upgraded".

  5. @beko Ah yes… and it broke down for good last week.

Really got what I payed for on it. That was my first and last #Sabrent device.

  6. Recently upgraded a couple of laptops in my little workshop for a client

8 GB to 32 GB RAM

and 256 GB SSD to a 1 TB drive.

Love my SABRENT external cloning station.

One laptop now runs Fedora 38 with KDE Plasma, the other running Linux Mint 21.2
    Cinnamon Edition

  8. New Macbook Pro means new backup drive...

Every now and then, I have to stop and think, "I'm storing four terabytes of data in a stick of chewing gum."

    What a world.

  9. I normally don't post reviews, but I wanted to share this one because I'm currently running this SSD in my Steam Deck!
