Wir haben kürzlich ein Samsung Galaxy S20 5G in einem hervorragenden Zustand gespendet bekommen. Das Smartphone ist knapp 6 Jahre alt und erhält seit letztem Frühjahr keine Updates mehr. Dank @e_mydata kann das Gerät nun wieder sicher und sogar ohne Google verwendet werden. 🧡

Samsung unexpectedly rolls out a security update for the Galaxy S20 devices

Samsung has unexpectedly rolled out a security update, through the Verizon network, to the Galaxy S20 series that was unveiled in 2020. The Galaxy S20 series has been considered as end of life as of this year, but it looks like that Verizon and the two other carriers in the USA have released a new update after the end of life date.

According to the firmware documentation, the security patch level still stays on March, which is outdated now. The security update improves your device’s security, but not with the Android security patch level, but on some of the components that the carriers use.

The following firmware information is available:

• Galaxy S20 Ultra
  • SM-G988U: G988USQSDHYG2 [CCT, VZW, CHA]
• Galaxy S20+
  • SM-G986U: G986USQSDHYG2 [CCT, VZW, CHA]
• Galaxy S20
  • SM-G981V: G981VSQSDHYG2 [CCT]

In order to update your phone, follow these steps:

1. Open Settings and navigate to Software update
2. Tap Download and Install
3. You should see the security update on your screen. Tap Download
4. Let it download, then tap Install

Make sure that your phone is fully charged before you attempt to initiate the system update. You need to connect to your Wi-Fi network while downloading the update to reduce mobile data fees. Never interrupt the update in any way, or problems with the phone could occur.

Mein #Sonoff #S20 #MicroPython #OpenSource Projekt ist ein ganzen Stück näher an der realen Benutzbarkeit angekommen. Denn nun kann man seine Zeit-Zone angeben und alle Zeiten werden in der lokalen Zeitzone angezeigt. Nix mehr umrechnen ;)
Außerdem kann man jeder Steckdose mit einem eigenen Namen versehen.
Ansonsten viele Bugs gefixt und einige Tests implementiert und github CI pipeline aufgebaut.
