Tänään voisi olla hyvä päivä kokeilla (siis kokeisiin, ei kokkeihin!). Bit of a diversion this evening, building an AMD Ryzen 5 based PC for a neighbour. He was quoted over £1,500, we put this together for about half the cost. Only difference is that we got Windows 11 Home and no super powerful graphics card, the onboard graphics should be enough for non-gaming use.

draft - People - chromeos requires 8gb ram. I don't care if there's a bunch of 4gb ram devices. If you please vote a little bit with your wallet and get at least 8gb ram, and at least a core i3 / ryzen3, it's gonna be better.

I recently bought parts to upgrade to a new PC. This is my third build (previously I built my wife's and son's PCs) and I'm feeling confident about doing a task like this now 😊
I tried this new AM5 Ryzen kind of processor because it doesn't need a graphics card and looked promising for the meantime.
I'm more than impressed with the performance. Playing PS3 games with RPCS3 is wonderful 🤩 Been playing some Demon's Souls for the first time 😱

These chips are #iGPU and #NPU-free versions of #Ryzen 8700G and 8600G
Similar to Intel's F-series CPUs and AMD's other F-series CPUs, these new #Zen4 chips are built from recycled silicon that might have defective graphics unit and/or NPU inside. This improves AMD's production efficiency and reduces excess waste which would be the case if it threw out every single #APU it made with a bad GPU/NPU.

I built my #PC with an #x570 mobo back in 2020 with a #Ryzen5 3600 and 32 gb of 3200Mhz memory, with a plan to upgrade at some point.
I upgraded the CPU with a #Ryzen7 5700 , and a #Radeon 6900 last year.
I think that prices for the #Ryzen9 5950x are low enough to make it worth another upgrade now, but I probably need 3600 Mhz memory while I'm at it.

so I've tested a couple of games on my framework amd and it does surprisingly well. if you drop its resolution to that of a steamdeck (1280x800) it actually out performs the steamdeck on the steamdeck preset in cyberpunk 2077.
it can run doom eternal on high very playable too. Spider-man glitches out with a lighting bug, but the frame rate is good while it does it
FSR has done a lot for these APU machines.

Habe eben einen lüfterlosen #MiniPC auf Basis von #PentiumSilver mit 2xRJ45 als Ersatz bestellt.
Bis der da ist habe ich meinen Asrock #Ryzen5-MiniPC einfach von der SSD der abgerauchten Kiste booten und die Server-Rolle für SMTP, SMB, #SyncThing, #BackupPC, #MariaDB und die weiteren #Docker-Container übernehmen lassen.
Geht doch.

À mon futur moi qui se demandera encore quelle option ajouter au boot pour éviter les screen tearing et stuttering avec un #ryzen53400G la réponse est de mettre GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="amd_iommu=on iommu=pt" dans /etc/default/grub
Je pensais pas devoir encore le faire avec un kernel 5.6 mais si.
