Today saw my last ride home from RWCMD – Tomorrow is my last day at RWCMD…
I need to drive in so I can take home my “stuff” after clearing my desk, and locker, and office drawers, and multiple boxes of “things” spread around the building. After 20 years I may have built up a “collection” ….
It’s been a tough week of “lasts”, lots of amazing and encouraging conversations as folks bump into me to say goodbye.
I going to miss so many things about this place. Some things not so much. But its still hard – and that’s OK because that difficulty in leaving is only there because of the good things from the past 20 years.
Monday sees the start of my new job – i’m still slightly in shock that I will be joining CharcoalBlue as an AV Design Consultant.
But before then, one more day,
one day more,
one more day …. -
Go on then, guess where I am (again)!
This time to see The Manchester Collective and Fergus McCreadle, melding jazz and Scottish folk music together.
Should be interesting!

Back in my happy place.
This time to see Roopa Panesar.
Roopa Panesar is considered one of the finest sitar players to emerge on the Indian Classical Music scene from the UK.

A fantastic performance from Anna Mudeka last night in Mama Afrika. Telling the life story of iconic singer, songwriter and activist Miriam Makeba, who spent 31 years in exile from her native South Africa due to apartheid.

Despite many, many trips to the Welsh College of Music and Drama this is my first visit to the Donald Gordon Theatre for tonight's performance of Mama Afrika.

Yesterday was silly hat day at work - more commonly known as graduation!
Being #rwcmd we do graduation & last day of the academic year & the summer ball all on the same day!
It's always a special but bittersweet day of celebration & goodbyes.
But also being "tech" we are one of the few staff working all day - rather than celebrating. Slightly easier this year as we pushed the ball over to our friends at Production78 so we were just "cover".
But yep still bittersweet.

Sat on the balcony at #RWCMD enjoying the sun, breeze in the trees and the random sounds of multiple practice rooms : https://recorder.google.com/share/7b2afe04-5f2b-4d11-91f2-5270ae69ffcd

So tonight in work it was time for our weekly JazzTime - but it was definitely not Jazz - I'm putting a word in for #FunkyFridays to be a "thing" here at #RWCMD
From a tech point of view I still really enjoy seeing all the kit we put in during covid getting used like this - its even better when I know its students running it - as it was tonight for the video side of things.

So #Eurovision is over for another year. I always watch it with my "industry" hat on - fascinating to see the use (and sometimes misuse) of tech during the show.
Have to say that the UK's delivery was outstanding this year - but also - its what we do - so i wouldn't have expected any less!
Was a bit weird watching knowing that the LD was Tim Routledge - who got me started professionally in this industry. We still have a good catch up chat when he comes into #RWCMD each year.

Well that was excellent!
Lots of Thelonius Monk stuff.
The lady in the photo is Petra, she dances tap and then some! In fact she was an integral part of the band providing a huge part of the percussion section. She blew us all away, especially when we found out it was the first time she'd ever danced with the quartet.
Such talent on one stage.

#3GoodThings @3GoodThings
1/ Added disks to two ASM disk groups, the 2nd rebalance waited and then disappeared. I was worried that it had failed, but Oracle automatically ran it on another instance
2/ Lovely gamelan and piano lessons this week.
3/ #KayhanKalhor and #ErdalErzincan playing the #RWCMD in January. I know nothing about Persian classical music, but went to see Majid Derakhshani on the off chance on the evening of the last election and it was stunning
