This was Taylor's eighth studio LP and his first on Columbia after years on Warner Bros. It was produced by Peter Asher and recorded in Los Angeles. Danny Kortchmar, Leland Sklar, and Russ Kunkel appear, with guest backing vocals from Linda Rondstadt and his then wife Carly Simon on specific tracks. One of his best selling albums. Lyle Lovett & His Acoustic Group at the Shalin Liu in Rockport MA, 5/4/2025
Lyle Lovett is a phenomenal talent and great performer – you should see him any time you get a chance. He was in Rockport at the Shalin Liu with his “Acoustic Group” a few weeks ago – great show.
We saw the Sunday “matinee” at 5pm, which meant that you could still see the harbor throughout the whole show.
Before the show at the Shalin Liu, Rockport MAThe “acoustic group” includes some real heavy hitters:
- Leland Sklar on bass. Amazing session player since the early 70s; part of The Section
- Russ Kunkel on drums. Also an amazing session player on hundreds of key LA recorded albums from the seventies forward.
- Jim Cox on keyboards (mostly piano). Very well known touring and studio session player
- Jeff White on guitar. Grammy award winning producer, member of the Chieftans, and a great bluegrass artist in his own right as well as recording with Alison Krauss and being part of the Earls Of Leicester
- Keith Sewell on mandolin. The youngest on stage – but has recorded with Ricky Skaggs, Dixie Chicks, Albert Lee, and Lovett
Needless to say the sound of a phone camera from ~80 ft away doesn’t replicate the sound of the venue, which is just fantastic.
