That time of the year again. 🙄
On the railways, I saw *so* many coworkers carrying around work-related trauma. We all wore little, yellow #RUOK badges, paid our lip service, but should you self-report, the bosses took you off-roster to do make-work during sociable hours—thereby denying you penalty rates and shift loadings, which could account for a third or more of your pay.
It was a powerful systemic disincentive to seek proper help.

Stumbled on these cool visual delights after exploring an #alleyway for art the other day.
Fell in love with the spirited #elephant (has super kind / pretty eyes) and the hands had impactful meaning, for sure.
I didn’t see them as reaching out (to be saved), rather… it was a statement that I interpreted as ‘I am here for you’ - reach out to me, if you’re in need.
These were displayed, albethey somewhat hidden behind shops in #Clayton #Australia.

A solemn art piece on a suburban wall (home) in #CaulfieldSouth #Australa… depicting, what I like to think of a boy waving. Not drowning.
However, there’s a poem called “Not Waving but Drowning" by the most famous poem by British poet Stevie Smith, and was first published in 1957.
The poem describes a drowning man whose frantic arm gestures are mistaken for waving by distant onlookers.
On a less literal level, the poem speaks to the isolation and pain of being misunderstood, and is a kind of parable about the distance between inner feelings and outward appearance.
If you notice someone struggling, ask them if they’re alright. And if they’re not, extend a loving hand, give them a call or take them out for coffee and try pull them free from their despair.
