I'm back reading Classic #RuneQuest and this time I simply rant about the #Glorantha world map from the Introduction chapter, pulling all kinds of other Gloranthan #TTRPG books from my shelves to compare. It's a cartographic showdown! https://ludovic.chabant.com/blog/2026/08/17/reading-classic-runequest-the-first-glorantha-map/

Resuming my read of the classic #RuneQuest 2nd edition boxed set, I finally get to the rulebook! But I only get through the introduction because I just can't stop ranting! https://ludovic.chabant.com/blog/2026/08/10/reading-classic-runequest-the-introduction-chapter/

Last time I talked about #RuneQuest #Glorantha and how it has too much lore and not enough playable content, I heard that we need a "baseline" for the setting. Let's address this.... with random tables! #TTRPG https://ludovic.chabant.com/blog/2026/08/05/runic-rants-gloranthas-lore-baseline/

As I continue to replay #Morrowind , I once again notice what a masterpiece this game was. Even by the standards of the #ElderScrolls franchise, the lore of this game is fantastic and weird. It has crammed a lot of different cultures and unique perspectives into the relatively small area of the map, and you sense this every time you enter a different settlement.
And, wisely, the game avoids presenting an "Ultimate Truth" to the mysteries of the plot and the setting. There are different views and opinions aplenty, but ultimately the players must decide whom to believe for themselves.
Also, it's very clear that the developers were big #Glorantha / #RuneQuest fans. I have only begun to explore _that_ particular setting, but I greatly appreciate the worldbuilding of Glorantha as well.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but a midwifery campaign is perfectly possible in #Runequest too, even when both prospective biological parents are male.

After playing and improvising a 1d100 system on AD&D, I went and picked up a copy of Stormbringer to look into other 1d100 systems. Maybe get some ideas.
I feel like this game was overlooked in the states, but what do I know.
It is actually quite good. Not perfect. Quite a few things I ended up doing are already present in this game.
But, there is just one thing about all the BRP, Runequest games that bugs me. I am not saying it is wrong or bad, just bugs me. I do not like SIZE being in the same block as other attributes like Strength, Intelligence, etc...
In concept, I like the idea that there are categories of sizes, and things change when you are in those other size ranges, but having it be a STAT that ranges from 1 to 100 does not appeal to me. Feels too fiddly. And I would probably rule that all characters are about the same size range anyways.

Was die Mondmotte sah (Juni 2026)

#pnpde #chtulhu #runequest #ageofviking #Stormbringer

I'm trying to think of something to write about that's NOT politics. I've done a lot of book-related stuff today, so I don't want to overdo that.
I could write about tabletop RPG design. I've been thinking about creating a heavily simplified version of my favorite system, the RuneQuest III system that was published by Avalon Hill; it's a brilliant system, but it's pretty crunchy. Combat in particular can be quite time-consuming.
Ideally I'd like a stripped-down version that can be used for sheetless campaigns. Something that takes numbers out of the awareness of the players so they can focus on real role-playing and getting into their characters.
I know there are a number of variations on the original RuneQuest rules, but I haven't tried them all. Does anyone know if there's a simplified version already out there?
