  1. Detail of a thimbleberry. I’ve popped enough of these in my mouth, I thought I’d take a closer look for once.

    ✧ blackberry ✧

The blackberry is an edible fruit produced by many species in the genus Rubus in the family Rosaceae. Blackberries are typically produced from hybrid plants among the species within the subgenus Rubus, or hybrids between the subgenera Rubus and Idaeobatus. Similar to the raspberry, it is not a berry in the botanical sense, being classified as an aggre...

  3. View of my berry box. On the right are newly-planted canes of Prime-Ark Freedom blackberry, red raspberry, black raspberry, tayberry, and boysenberry. On left, in the raised bed, are strawberries (Ozark Beauty, Merlan, Mignonette), and at the far end, Sunshine Blue blueberries. #berries #rubus #blackberries #raspberries #boysenberries #tayberries #strawberries #garden #gardening #fruit

  4. Against my better judgement I ordered a tayberry, a hybrid of blackberry and raspberry created in 1979 near the Tay River in Scotland. Tried an ice cream with this flavor a few years ago and it tasted exactly like Pepto-Bismol. Giving it a second chance. #tayberry #berries #fruit #garden #gardening #rubus #blackberry #raspberry #hybridization

  6. "Child's Golden Japanese Mayberry", _Mayflower_ magazine, May 1896, Floral Park, New York, USA. Likely Rubus palmatus (or a hybrid): the plant is native to Korea and Japan and sets golden yellow or orange fruit in May. The leaves are more less the same as in the print, the only bit that doesn't quite match is the picture of it as a small tree with a single trunk - R. palmatus is a shrub with biennial canes.
