COVID, #RSV and #flu cases and emergency room visits are all down as well. COVID cases are below previous troughs, but #RSVirus and #influenza cases are still above the summer baselines.

In #NYC as of March 14, #COVID and #RSV cases are down, and so are #RSVirus emergency department visits as a percentage of all ED visits. #influenza cases and #COVID19 and flu ED visits are slightly up, but it's all within normal fluctuations.
No new COVID deaths were reported, so we're on track for another relatively low-death month.
But #COVIDIsNotOver as long as people are going to hospitals and dying, so I still #WearAMask in elevators, trains, planes, buses, pharmacies and supermarkets!

In #NYC as of March 7, #COVID #flu and #RSV case counts are all down. Emergency room visits are down for #COVID19 and #RSVirus. They're slightly up for #influenza but that's probably within the normal range of variation.
I'm really happy that the winter waves for all three diseases were relatively mild, and I hope it's a good long time before we have another bad wave!
With 10 deaths in February #COVIDIsNotOver so I still #WearAMask in elevators, trains, planes, pharmacies and supermarkets!

There is a very slight uptick in #flu and #RSV cases in #NYC, which may indicate that we're going to have a relatively rare double wave this #FluSeason, but it's still less than 1% of hospitalizations.
#COVIDIsNotOver but #COVID cases are at some of the lowest levels since the virus emerged, and there were 30 deaths in the four weeks ending February 7.

Cautiously optimistic because #flu and #RSV cases and hospitalizations are going down in #NYC for the first time in this #FluSeason! Nationwide, #RSVIrus hospitalizations are also dropping, and #influenza is rising slower. I'm hoping they will continue to drop in time for next week's live band karaoke!

Nationwide 7-day average hospitalizations for #COVID19 have dropped to 0.8 per lakh, and #RSVirus has risen to 0.8 per lakh, but it's #influenza putting people in the hospital!

Why do I still #WearAMask on the bus? Because we're in the middle of #flu and #RSV waves, and #COVIDIsNotOver.
I'm vaccinated against #influenza and #COVID19, but not #RSVirus. Even if I can handle them, I don't really want to get sick, and I definitely don't want to pass them on to someone more vulnerable!
This #NYCTransit Q53 bus was packed, and the ventilation is just not that good. At one point someone sitting across from me let out a big wet cough.

#COVID cases and deaths continue to drop in #NYC the week ending December 6, but #flu and #RSV cases continue to rise.
The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene doesn't publish absolute numbers of hospitalizations for #influenza and the #RSVirus, only the percentage of emergency room visits. That doesn't really help me decide whether to host in-person karaoke!

New post: When I express concern about COVID-19, I have some friends who say, "Well, isn't it just like the flu now?" Some COVID-cautious people respond by saying, "No, it's nothing like the flu, it's much worse!"
I'm not an epidemiologist, but from everything I've heard, a better response is, "Well, it is kind of like the flu - and RSV - but we should care about the flu and RSV too!"

I have now replaced the charts based on stale #NYC and CDC #COVID data with new charts based on the weekly #COVID19 case and death data, and case counts for #flu and #RSV, provided by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene!
The fall COVID wave is definitely over, but it looks like the #influenza and #RSVirus waves are hitting at the same time this year; last year the flu wave was a month after RSV.

Baby's kunnen vanaf volgende maand een inenting krijgen tegen het RS-virus. Dat verkoudheidsvirus kan gevaarlijke infecties aan de luchtwegen veroorzaken.

COVID numbers are going up, but #flu and #RSV cases continue to drop in #NYC. We still don't have accurate hospitalization numbers for #influenza and #RSVirus here, but it looks like the overall risk of hospitalization and death from acute airborne infectious diseases is dropping.
I'm going to plan for indoor dining and singing, and maybe travel, but as long as this many people are dying and being hospitalized I'll #WearAMask in elevators, trains, doctor's offices, pharmacies and supermarkets!

Also frustrated that the #NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene still isn't releasing accurate hospitalization counts for #flu and #RSV, but it looks like the case counts are finally down to relatively low levels - below 8,000 for #influenza and below 700 for #rsvirus!
I think I finally feel comfortable hosting karaoke in person next week, for the first time this year!
But as long as there are lots of people suffering and dying, I still #WearAMask in trains, buses and doctors' offices!

Due to incomplete data, it turns out the #RSV case count in #NYC was NOT below 1,000 in the week ending February 15. But it's again reported below 1,000 for the week ending February 22.
Cases of #RSVirus and the #flu are clearly trending down. Let's hope they keep dropping, and don't get revised up too far!
In combination with the drop in COVID cases, this suggests that overall March will be safer from respiratory infections. It's stil a good idea to #WearAMask in crowded spaces !

#influenza cases are dropping in #NYC, and #rsv is now down below 1,000 cases a week. Small comfort if, like me, you've been caring for a loved one who's been in and out of hospitals with the #rsvirus for three weeks!
Still, in combination with the plateau in COVID cases, it should be safer to relax precautions - eating indoors more, singing karaoke, maybe taking a plane trip.
But I still #WearAMask in elevators, trains, buses, doctors' offices, hospitals, pharmacies and supermarkets!

#RSV cases peaked in #NYC in December, and now it looks like #influenza cases peaked the week ending January 25. Unfortunately, #flu case counts were at the highest in years, and have a long way to go down!
A thousand cases of #rsvirus means a bunch of vulnerable people are still going to end up in the hospital, and that includes my mom, who was hospitalized for RSV and pneumonia last week, and is still in the hospital; I wrote about our experience. Please #WearAMask !

My 86-year-old mom's in the hospital with #RSV and pneumonia, but I have the #rsvirus too, so I haven't been able to visit her for two days. Fortunately my kid went and I talked to Mom on the phone, and she's stable.
I was well enough just now to go to the supermarket, where I always #WearAMask . On the way, my hairdresser said a lot of people have been canceling due to #flu or RSV.
I heard a cough that sounded exactly like the one I've been making the past couple days. It was the publican.
