  1. With #QuiteRSS broken, I've been trying out #RSSGuard today. It's actually not bad at all. In fact, I would say it's probably the best RSS reader for news and blogs.

It falls down a bit with webcomics. If you opt to just show the description of a page, it will shrink the comic image for some reason. Akregator does this as well, and it's annoying.

It does YouTube reasonably well, but you have to do an extra click to see the thumbnail, which adds friction to filtering out shorts.

  5. La sorpresa del día me ha sido descubrir #rssguard como aplicación, me pareció ver que vienen en estas fechas de añadir y actualizar bastantes elementos, la verdad me está convenciendo.

  7. CW: rssguard and freshrss integration question

Hey masto, I’ve got a technical question regarding integrating #rssguard with #freshrss. How does it work? Adding my freshrss login and password in rssguard seems to be not enough. The link to the server is correct, I checked it with the admin hosting it. I find some enigmatic informations about some plugin but no info on where to find it and how to add it to rssguard. Anyone made it work?

  17. We have removed #RSSGuard from our list of recommended software.

Its JavaScript article filters are the USP for RSS Guard, because they're so much more powerful than the filtering by search words or regular expressions available in other feed reader applications.

Migration from 4.8.6 to version 5 is only mostly seamless for local accounts. Still, you lose your assignments of article filters to the specific RSS feeds you want them applied to.

Users of Nextcloud News are losing their article filters, completely.

  21. Oh great, updated my RSSGuard flatpak to Version 5 which is incompatible to the Datebase of Verision4 and cannot import it.
Also cant downgrade to the previous Version because that commit seems to be too lang ago. Of course of have no OPML with the Feeds.

  25. @ury I've abandoned ,as it was not possible to have 2 way sync with together with mobile rss reader. Now I'm using on + on

  26. @ury I've abandoned #elfeed ,as it was not possible to have 2 way sync with #miniflux together with mobile rss reader. Now I'm using #rssguard on #Linux + #capyreader on #android

  27. Cela fait environ trois mois que j'utilise le client #RSSguard pour gérer mes flux et j'en suis pleinement satisfait, je recommande à mon tour après avoir été bien conseillé.

  28. RSS Guard doesn't save its UI settings (like sort order, displayed columns, etc.)?

This is a mature (version 4.8.5!) application? Wut?

  33. Ah-ha, I found a "Limit height of all pictures" setting in Settings -> Feeds & articles -> Articles, which defaults to 72 px. What is this, a feed for ants?!

Settings this to 0 px looks also says "unchanged size" in the field, so I think we're good now. 👍

I wonder if there's a value for "max width = width of the article viewing area" for feeds that have massive images?

  38. RSSGuard might be the 🧀 : github.com/martinrotter/rssgua

Actively maintained, lots (and lots) of configuration options, loaded my OPML properly.

Big problem though: Its displaying images in articles microscopically though (see image) and I haven't found a way to fix that.

  43. @mhoye this is funny. I went to Feedly for a while, since they were pretty similar to gReader, but then I came across the news app for #Nextcloud and have been using that as the aggregator with local clients (currently #RSSGuard) ever since.

And I mention this only because I noticed a new Social app that looks to be an ActivityPub-enabled something. It's in beta and I'm not exactly sure of the author's vision, but that journey kind of looks like the culmination of your left branch. 😆
