  1. #ThunderBayON - City Spaces - Honouring Indigenous Space and Place

"The City of Thunder Bay is committed to honouring and celebrating Indigenous space and place. The Indigenous Relations and Inclusion Office will work to collaborate on new place-making initiatives and opportunities for welcoming spaces in the city to identify heritage recognition and honour history and culture by maintaining and enhancing existing spaces.

    The #SpiritGarden

The Spirit Garden was built in collaboration with Indigenous and city partners through the Prince Arthur’s Landing development, which was completed in 2011. The Spirit Garden is a space to honour the history and cultures of Indigenous peoples in the city. The Circle is reflected in the overall design of the spaces to represent inclusiveness and bridging of worldviews.

    The #HonouringCircle (#SacredFire)

On the shore of #Kitchigami (Big Ocean/Lake Superior) looking East with #Nanabijou (Sleeping Giant) on the horizon, the Honouring Circle maintains the vision of honouring #TurtleIsland through its configuring of stones surrounding the fire pit. The fire pit is also placed in the centre of the Medicine Wheel, to honour the teaching principles of the #Anishinaabe.

The #HonouringCircle is a place of contemplation, ceremony and contribution. The Anishinaabe have always recognized the geographic and cultural importance of this area.

The #CelebrationCircle (Outdoor Theatre) – Within The Spirit Garden

The form of the Celebration Circle is inspired by #RoyThomas’ concept for the space to pay homage to Turtle Island based on the Anishinaabe Creation Story. The site was designed in collaboration between Indigenous artist and architect #RyanGorrie of Thunder Bay and #BrookMcIlroy architects. Its form is inspired by traditional Anishinaabe bentwood building techniques using wood harvested by #IndigenousArtist #GeorgePrice and fabricated at #FortWilliamFirstNation.

The Circle symbolizes an '#inclusive circle' between all people and creation and is a way to honour the local Indigenous and Original Peoples of the land. It serves as a common ground – a spiritual place, a place of meditation and celebration gathering together all cultures. This space is embraced as a teaching and gathering space where stories can be shared from the perspective of the First Nations peoples who have lived on this shoreline for millennia.

  2. Better than Streaming: Fire and Ice 4K Blu-ray Coming Out On June 30

Welcome back fellow geeks, Blu-ray collectors and movie buffs!

If you love the animated works of director Ralph Bakshi (American Pop, The Lord of The Rings) and the artworks of Frank Frazetta (Conan The Barbarian, Vampirella), then you should watch out for their memorable collaboration in ultra high-definition as the 1983 animated movie Fire and Ice will be released on 4K Blu-ray format on June 30, 2026, exclusively via MVDshop.

Fire and Ice 4K Blu-ray cover has the same classic artwork of the official movie poster.

With a story co-written by Bakshi and Frazetta and the screenplay done by comic book legends Gerry Conway and Roy Thomas, Fire and Ice is the story of a young warrior named Larn who wants revenge against the evil queen Juliana and her son Nekron. Larn also has the task to rescue their kidnapped princess Teegra. For your interest and reference, watch the classic movie trailer below.

I personally am interested in replaying Fire and Ice in 4K Blu-ray format. I saw Fire and Ice a few times a very long time ago on a rented video tape and on cable TV (randomly viewed it) but I never actually got to watch it entirely. Fire and Ice 4K Blu-ray is on my list of 4K Blu-ray releases of this year. I can only wonder when it would get offered via Amazon.

As for Ralph Bakshi, I admire his works on rotoscoped animation and how he visualized his concepts. His work on The Lord of the Rings animated film of 1978 was ambitious and he made the most out of their limited resources. I own a Blu-ray copy of his animated film American Pop and watching rotoscoped animated scenes and characters move in high-definition is enjoyable.

Fire and Ice, to the best of my memory, has a fantasy concept that reminds me somewhat of Conan The Barbarian (and the sword-and-sandals fantasy elements) and it also the traditional concept of the heroic man who risks his life to save an important woman from the forces of evil. To replay Fire and Ice in 4K is something I desire as a 4K Blu-ray collector and enthusiast of traditional animation.

Not to be outdone is the vocal cast that has William Ostrander, Maggie Roswell, Steve Sandor, Stephen Mendel and Susan Tyrell. The performances in Fire and Ice were strong.

    lospaziobianco.it/alcaffedelca

Tra astronomia e supereroi, esploriamo l'idea di una Terra contraria, concetto che in qualche modo unisce i due universi supereroistici principali, quello della DC Comics e quello della Marvel.

  4. It's finally happened! We're taking a comic we covered for a #DollarBinDiscovery and doing a proper deep dive on the series. Jessika is leading this week's discussion on Alter Ego, an extremely meta homage to pulp comics by industry icons Ron Harris and Roy Thomas.

    #Marvel , November 1970

    Hostage!
    Script: #RoyThomas
    Art: #JohnBuscema

New York City is held hostage by the Zodiac. They capture the Avengers and only the Panther and Daredevil are left free to fight against the gang.

Murdock frees the #Avengers . Aries, leader of the Zodiac, escapes, but he is stopped by Thor and presumed dead.

A shameful issue. The Zodiac arc is solved in a rushed and unexciting manner.

  11. So #RoyThomas continues to perpetuate the #StanLee myth. Why bother? Stan ADMITS he didn't want to be writing comics c.1960. He wanted to be taken seriously. But Jack & Steve WANTED to do comics. When they left Marvel, their books changed drastically in their absence... which is a dead giveaway. If Jack hadn't returned to Marvel in the late 1950s the Marvel Age probably would never have happened. There was an essential #gestalt that made it all happen c1961.
