It was the thrill of my life when Barry shared my film with "Dave" and the word came back that he loved it.
As long as human beings are still watching cinema, his films will be there to inspire, perplex, and thrill.

#RIP Gary Indiana, the matchless novelist, essayist, and author. I was fortunate enough to have dinner with him one night in June 2022. His publisher Dan Simon set it up after I had expressed my love of his writing. Though his acerbic wit on the page made me a little nervous to meet him, in person that night he was gracious and funny.

My film has exactly 99 ratings on imdb. Who'd like to make it 100?
Even better if you write a review!

Naturally, when Steve Albini popped into the room while we were mixing the LP for #roysworldfilm I restrained myself from snapping any photos. Keeping it classy. Just like Steve, who (by all accounts) did not much for care for jazz yet built a magnificent recording studio that has fostered countless superb jazz albums. He had integrity and grit and there'll never be another like him.

On this leap day four years ago, the second public screening of my film ROY'S WORLD: BARRY GIFFORD'S CHICAGO took place at the #GlasgowFilmFest. Shortly thereafter, I bought this exquisite bottle of Cadenhead's #rum to take back home.
Four years later there's just enough left for a final toast this evening. Which I will raise to everyone who helped make the film a reality--you know who you are. Cheers!

"There’s something about the belatedly released music on 'Roy’s World'—recorded in 2017 for the titular film by Rob Christopher—that has brought me such a steady sense of joy ... The quintet delivers quintessential Chicago jazz. The music is rugged, bluesy, and generous, injecting post-bop forms with a contemporary aesthetic. The year’s most welcome return."

"'Roy's World' has everything you want in a jazz thriller. What stands out most is the cohesiveness, energy and mastery of a crack jazz band at the top of their game."

My film ROY'S WORLD: BARRY GIFFORD'S CHICAGO got its first 1/2 star rating on #letterboxd! Meaning that someone was finally moved enough to deem my handiwork an utter POS! So I got that going for me.

I'm excited to announce that Lilli Carré's exquisite animated sequence "Chicago, Illinois, 1953," which is narrated by Lili Taylor and appears in my film ROY'S WORLD, will be part of the NU Animation Jam next Tuesday, November 14. The event is *free* and will include a whole bunch of other cool shorts, and I'll be participating in the Q & A. Hope you can make it!

3 years ago today, my film had its World Premiere at the #Glasgow Film Festival. What a trip. Less than a month later, the pandemic had shut down the world. I'm so grateful for everything that's happened since then--despite all the bumps in the road, ROY'S WORLD: BARRY GIFFORD'S CHICAGO is now streaming! So, my fellow #filmmakers, don't give up! You never know how things are gonna turn out.

Would you do me a kindness? If you've watched my film ROY'S WORLD could you rate it and/or write a review? For a itty bitty indie film like mine, it makes a huge difference. Thanks!
