To był jeden z najgorętszych tematów ostatnich tygodni w świecie zegarków. Po miesiącach spekulacji, przecieków i analizowania tajemniczych zapowiedzi, Swatch oficjalnie zaprezentował owoc współpracy z legendarną manufakturą Audemars Piguet.
Zamiast spodziewanej, plastikowej kopii najsłynniejszego szwajcarskiego zegarka na rękę, otrzymaliśmy projekt o wiele bardziej intrygujący – Royal Pop. To modułowy, przekształcalny zegarek kieszonkowy.
Nie z własnego podwórka
Decyzja o stworzeniu tego konkretnego produktu jest wydarzeniem bez precedensu. Po spektakularnym sukcesie modeli MoonSwatch (we współpracy z należącą do Swatch Group Omegą) oraz Scuba Fifty Fathoms (z marką Blancpain, również z portfolio grupy), branża spodziewała się kolejnego projektu z „własnego podwórka” (wielu stawiało na markę Breguet).
Tymczasem partnerem został niezależny gigant haute horlogerie – Audemars Piguet. Stworzenie taniej wersji słynnego modelu Royal Oak w formie zegarka na rękę mogłoby stanowić zbyt duże ryzyko wizerunkowe dla oryginału. Zamiast tego firmy postanowiły nawiązać do historycznego modelu kieszonkowego AP (referencja 5691) oraz do kultowej linii Swatch POP z wczesnych lat 90.
Jeden zegarek, dziesiątki zastosowań
Royal Pop nie jest typowym czasomierzem. Główne urządzenie to wykonana z biostalioceramiki (Bioceramic) koperta o średnicy 40 mm i grubości zaledwie 8,4 mm. Zamknięto w niej charakterystyczne DNA modelu Royal Oak: ośmiokątny pierścień z ośmioma widocznymi śrubami oraz tarczę ozdobioną słynnym wzorem Petite Tapisserie.
Kluczem do całego projektu jest modułowość. Zegarek jest „wpinany” w specjalne ramki, co pozwala nosić go na dziesiątki sposobów: jako klasyczny zegarek kieszonkowy (z dołączonym skórzanym rzemieniem), jako wisior na szyi, jako ozdobę przypiętą do torebki lub paska, a dzięki specjalnej podstawce – jako elegancki zegar biurkowy.
Z pewnością kwestią czasu są zewnętrzne akcesoria, które pozwolą zamontować moduł na nadgarstku. Warto odnotować, że tym razem Swatch zastosował po obu stronach koperty szkło szafirowe, rezygnując z podatnego na zarysowania szkła syntetycznego znanego z poprzednich projektów.

Sercem urządzenia jest mechanizm Sistem51 – po raz pierwszy w wariancie z naciągiem ręcznym. Cechuje go 90-godzinna rezerwa chodu, antymagnetyczna sprężyna włosowa Nivachron oraz dokładność regulowana laserowo na etapie produkcji.
Transparentny dekiel ukazuje mechanizm ozdobiony nadrukami w stylu pop-art (inspirowanymi twórczością Roya Lichtensteina). Ciekawostką jest wycięcie w bębnie sprężyny, które służy jako wizualny wskaźnik rezerwy chodu.
Kolekcja obejmuje 8 wariantów kolorystycznych (nazwanych na cześć liczby 8 w różnych językach, odzwierciedlając 8 boków pierścienia). Sześć z nich to wersje Lépine (koronka na godzinie 12), a dwie to odmiany savonnette (koronka na godzinie 3 i mała sekunda na godzinie 6).
Zegarki będą dostępne wyłącznie w wybranych, stacjonarnych butikach Swatch. Ceny ustalono na około 385 euro (wersja bez sekundnika) oraz 400 euro (wersja z małą sekundą). Audemars Piguet zapowiedziało, że 100% swoich zysków z tego projektu przeznaczy na fundację wspierającą zachowanie i naukę rzadkich umiejętności zegarmistrzowskich.

“Since early July, several people have witnessed and reported frequent trapping of quail to the Capital Regional District #CRD and other authorities,” said a resident, who wished to remain anonymous. “We believe the trappers have almost decimated the quail population on and around the property.”
#BritishColumbia regulations only allow for California #quail to be hunted during October and November, by someone with a #hunting license. However, as the 10.94 hectare piece of land, adjacent to #ElkBeaverLake Regional Park, is owned and managed by the CRD, any hunting of wildlife, including quail, is a violation of a #CRDparks bylaw.
The COS and the CRD have asked that anyone with information should contact the Report All #Poachers and Polluters hotline at 1-877-952-7277.

Visuals of some local, suburban #rewilding efforts in #RoyalOak. Much of the area has been heavily developed. There's lots of fab rewilding work being done in some areas - almost all due to local volunteers/nature stewards & kind donations from public.
The efforts have paid off, after several decades of community volunteer efforts. Many wildlife & pollinators have safer habitat to live in. There's enough food for them to share in rewilded areas.

The efforts have paid off, after several decades of community volunteer efforts. Many wildlife & pollinators have safer habitat to live in. There's enough food for them to share in rewilded areas.

I watched a presentation recently given by the Royal Oak City Engineer on Complete Streets. She stated that our signed "bike routes" are low traffic streets that you can "use to go through the city" and "take on a bike ride with their kids"
This four lane road is one of those bike routes. I am a reasonably fit middle aged man. I do not ride on this road. I would never take a child here. Prevailing speeds are close to 45mph.
We must do better.

Three localities voted to adopt ranked choice voting. But additional roadblocks remain.
Three cities in Michigan voted on Tuesday to move to a ranked choice voting system for local elections. But whether the proposals passed by voters will take effect remains uncertain.
Voters in East Lansing, Kalamazoo and Royal Oak approved initiatives placed on the ballot by Rank MI Vote, a nonprofit organization modeled after Voters Not Politician, which previously led statewide ballot initiatives introducing Michigan’s independent redistricting commission in 2018 and expanding voting rights in 2022.
But the proposals acknowledge upcoming hurdles to their implementation, saying they will only take effect “in the event state law allows for the use of ranked choice voting … and voting machine equipment capable of implementing ranked choice voting is available and obtained by the city, and such equipment is approved by the city election commission.”

84 years ago today. Early on 14 October 1939, HMS Royal Oak, anchored in Scapa Flow, Orkney, was sunk by a German U-boat with the loss of 834 lives.
