Do you know what #RouterFreedom is?
It is the right of users to choose and operate their own routers, modems, and other equipment used for internet connection.
It is important for user autonomy, competition, and privacy as it enables users to run #FreeSoftware operating systems on their routers and modems.

Turns out Dutch ISP Odido scans and reports the devices on your network via their provided router. At least we have #RouterFreedom in the Netherlands so anyone can install a router (modem) they trust. Learn more at https://fsfe.org/activities/routers/routers.html

Digital Networks Act: the FSFE calls for strong and consistent protection of Router Freedom!
For more than a decade, the :fsfe: Free Software Foundation Europe has worked to protect #RouterFreedom in Europe. The European Union is about to reform the telecom sector with the proposed #DigitalNetworksAct.

Your whole internet traffic, encryption, backups, communication, shopping, writings, business interaction, and so on are transferred through your router. If your router is not free, your digital freedom is likely to be compromised.
💥 Check out our #RouterFreedom tech wiki, which collects information on how to use a different modem or router from your internet provider.

@slimbook This is a great signal for #RouterFreedom and #SelfHosting.

Have you realized that all your Internet traffic, encryption, backups, communications, shopping, writing, business interactions, and so on, go through your router?
😟 Is your router free? If not, your digital freedom could be compromised.
✅ The good news: #RouterFreedom is secured by EU laws.
❌ The not so good ones: Router Freedom is still not a full reality in most of the EU countries. -
@kirschner @fsfe #routerfreedom free as in polluting the environment

Saw this on my way back from work at @fsfe . seems some people think #routerfreedom means you can through your router on the street... 😉

CW: re: ptpol digital

Good news for #RouterFreedom and #NetNeutrality
The Italian regulator AGCOM has opened a consultation on the determination of the location of the termination point. This will define whether end-users can use their own routers and modems to connect to the internet.https://www.agcom.it/provvedimenti/delibera-31-25-cons
Last October, we called to start a regulatory process to protect consumer rights and ensure router freedom in Italy.

We will contribute to the consultation, stay tuned!

Isn't #Fairphone a European company? Why are they (shop.fairphone.com) going through Cloud(G)lare?? It looks like they are trading Google surveillance for Cloud(G)lare. :/
That aside, is the firmware for #Fairphone modem/#radio fully FOSS, yet

Articles laud a particular team at a #dotCon for finding vulnerabilities in a #modem.
The funny thing is the #vulnerability appears to be in the #firmware and not the modem per se. The firmware is likely #propietary, so this is *not* not the great success story for the dotCon as the #securityTheatre-hungry talking heads may suggest.
Modems will be safer when they are fully #FOSS

Open question. Is #routerFreedom possible in Australia?
Has anyone in #Australia been able to run the #NBN (NationalBroadbandNetwork) through devices they own outright, while also using #FOSS firmware such as #OpenWRT.
If so we'd love to know your experience.
How long have you been running it? Is it difficult to maintain? Etc.
