FCC bans almost all routers in the name of cybersecurity: stopping the flow of "foreign" routers is likely to do more harm than good

This detailed look at the US #RouterBan is worth a read.
TL;DR: the security risks are real, but the ban – and the associated conditional approval process – may be set up to give a commercial advantage to one company in the space.

In addition to all those other w/e brands nobody uses, I've heard our beloved @mikrotik is banned by the new #RouterBan, too. 😔
I can't help but notice the careful "aimed at consumers" wording... Wondering if we're OK if we get something intended to be racked and stacked...

They are only banning “consumer routers.” I wonder how they differentiate. Is Ubiquiti consumer grade? Are we going to see an explosion in “small business routers”?
Little text that says “not for residential use” like how people are buying peptides/drugs online that are “not for human consumption” these days?
Is this a ploy to get everyone to use cell phones that are more easily tracked?
Once again, like “stopping terrorists” or “protecting children,” this is another attack on the American people in the name of “security.” When will we stop accepting “security” as an excuse?
