On thursday I managed to help a friend to update his #mikrotik #routerBoard G750 running ancient version of #routerOS from v3.29 to the latest Router OS version v7.20.8.
No hacking, no 3rd party software required. I had to do the upgrade in multiple steps for each major version upgrade seperate but still I am seeing this as a huge surprise.
I can run up to date software on par with todays security standards, even run services that were not available at the time of producing that device e.g. #wireguard. #tech #networking -

NanoPi R3S-LTS is a cheap, tiny router board with audio and video output
When FriendlyElec launched the NanoPi R3S last year, the tiny single-board computer was positioned as a router board that packed two Gigabit Ethernet ports and a Rockchip RK3566 processor into a board measuring just 57 x 57mm (2.24″ x 2.24″).
Now the company has added a new model to its lineup that adds a few features the original was missing: including an HDMI 2.0 port for video output, as […]

Banana Pi BPI-WiFi6 Mini is a cheap, tiny router board with WiFi 6, Gigabit Ethernet, and optional 4G or 5G support
The Banana Pi BPI-WiFi6 Mini is a tiny computer board designed for use as a DIY wireless router with support for open source software. It features the same processor and wireless chip found in the larger BPI-WiFi6 router that launched earlier this year. But, as the name suggests, the new “mini” model packs those components into a smaller package that measures just 65 x 65mm (about 2.56″ x […]

One of the things I love about #MikroTik devices is their longevity.
While looking for a simple VLAN capable switch in the office, I stumbled across a 10yo+ #RouterBoard RB750 powered by an Atheros AR7240 CPU, 32MB of RAM, and with 5x100MBit Ethernet ports.
It didn't meet my reqs, but I was still curious enough to take a look and successfully upgraded it from #RouterOS v4.9 from 2010 to the latest v7.6 within minutes.
You can only dream of that with other professional networking devices 😀

Going to start using #VLANs (Ethernet tagging) very soon on my #Mikrotik #RouterBOARD along with my #SwitchOS ethernet switch (managed) that I have. Will make for a nice clean setup regarding some aspects of my network I would like to manage as such.
I would like to physically seperate the home LAN traffic and the #CRXN. In my current setup it won't do that, however, I do know a future setup where it would make a lot of sense, it would be the case where the other switch on the other end of the trunk directly connects to the #CRXN network but then ALSO must provide IPv6 clearnet connectivity.
