  1. I'm back on Route 66, this time in Tulsa, Oklahoma. There's a lot to see here so I've split it into parts, starting with part of Rt-66 on 11th street in the "Land of Giants", read and see more:

  3. I didn't set out to experience all things Classen in Oklahoma City during a Route 66 road trip, but once I saw a minor theme emerging, I had to go with it:

  5. The Meadow Gold District in Tulsa OK is a way to see a lot of Route 66 nostalgia in one place, including Muffler Men statues, neon, and a nearby Musical Road that plays Woody Guthrie when you drive over it:

  11. Claremore, Oklahoma on Route 66 has a nice main street area with restaurants and antique stores. It also has the Will Rogers Hotel and an old WPA building.

  13. The first part of the drive was US66 from Ontario CA to Barstow, and then US91 until Salt Lake. After SLC we took US40 across the Rockies via the Berthoud Pass. This was before I-70 was finished. I have photos taken from the top of the pass too. Not sure how that Rambler with a 196 cubic inch 6 cylinder managed to haul a family of five across that pass (11,300 feet) while towing the VW, but my dad bragged about it until his dying day. #Route66

  14. The picture on the left was taken 63 years ago when our family moved from Los Angeles to Kansas City. I'm hoping to recreate the trip in one of my old Ramblers, but parts of the route have been a mystery. I'd assumed the photo was taken around Palm Springs or 29 Palms--definitely SoCal it seemed to me--but after obsessing over this for eons I finally found the spot, in the SW corner of Utah on old US91. This was the main route from Vegas to Salt Lake before I-15 was built. #ClassicCars #Route66

  18. Nestled along historic Route 66, Gallup is known alternately as the "Heart of Indian Country" and/or the "Adventure Capital of New Mexico." Located on the edge of the Navajo Nation, it is the most populous city between Flagstaff and Albuquerque. It was the departure point for the historic Navajo Code Talkers during World War 2.

  22. Another town on Route 66, this time, Chelsea, Oklahoma. They have a pedestrian underpass that goes under Route 66, and there's a mural on the walls. There's also an old truss bridge you can drive across.
