#Polari first came about in the theatre and the #gay #subculture in #Britain in the 1950s and 1960s.
Born largely out of a need for discretion in a potentially hostile environment, it provided a convenient shorthand for #LGBTQ communication and was popularised by #KennethWilliams in the #BBC #radio #comedy show #RoundTheHorne during the 1960's.
Hence, if an #LGBTQ speaker of Polari said to you that you had a 'dolly ecaf', they would be:

Good afternoon... been having a #radiocomedy session, listening to #TheGoonShow and #RoundtheHorne - I think I'm the only one I know, apart from my Dad, who is a #Goons fan, and I don't know anyone else who loves Round the Horne. Big fan of #ISIHAC and #ISIRTA as well, though the former hasn't been the same since Humph died. #OldHarry'sGame is another favourite (but again I'm the only person I know who knows or cares that it exists!)
