Last night at The Roundhouse, some 23 years after I first saw them as support for Martin Grech at The Joiners, Mew played their last gig. It was a joyous, beautiful, sad experience... a visceral, audio-visual rollercoaster ride of sonic memories, shared moments and majestic music. And at the end, as always, cats playing violins...

@fedops I'm really pleased. But I've been pleased with the #roundhouse at every stage of the process. It's a really satisfactory structure, it has cost very little actual money, and although we have had help at some points it's mainly just been two of us building it.

We saw The Inheritance, Part 1 two weeks ago at the Roundhouse Theatre in Bethesda, MD.
It’s great! The cast is amazing. See it if you can! (3 hours, 20 minutes goes by easily.)
We saw Part 2 two days ago. It’s good. Same fantastic cast, but not quite as compelling over 3 hrs 15 mins. We def still recommend seeing it!
Read the book Howard’s End, or watch the Merchant Ivory movie to fully appreciate it (we watched the movie after seeing Part 1, that worked.)
We were unsure about it when we got our season tickets, given the show lengths, but we’re glad we did.

But it is also striking that the #Trump tariffs aren't wanted by them either:
Excerpt: Among the top goals for Trump and his administration in hitting trading partners with steep tariffs is bringing manufacturing capacity back to the U.S., even if it comes at the price of short-term market and economic duress. But Antosh said tariffs won’t help his company.
“It’s a hardship for us,” Antosh said. “When jeans sewn outside the U.S. become more expensive from tariffs, we can’t subsidize our American-made jeans as much and their price must go up, meaning fewer customers can afford Made-in-USA.”

We're continuing with rendering the outside of the #roundhouse walls; the new render is sheltered by damp Hessian curtains to protect it from direct sun, to prevent it drying before the lime is fully cured. This is all hard physical work and we've at least six days more of it, but it's going well.

Well, it's not quite 11:00 and we've already completed the section of rendering we planned for today. That feels good.
Not going to do any more today because it's extremely hard physical work, but tomorrow's shift should complete the first coat on the outside of the building.

In the end I did chicken out. Poor mental health, not helped by lack of sleep. I didn't feel up to being in a noisy crowd in a town.

#roundhouse we're sitting here round the stove, drinking tea from water heated on it, looking around and thinking "we did this". It's a good feeling.
Of course the house is not finished, but the rest can be done out of the weather.

Rebuilding the bale wall that was blown out in the winter storms. This time we're tying the bales into sturdy wooden structure. There's still a problem to be solved in achieving a good seal between the bales and the roof.

My next job is to try to dig out the water pipe up at the #roundhouse site. We laid in 150 metres of pipe to get water up there, marked where the end of the trench was, ran over the marker with a Land Rover, and now we can't find it.
Bother.
