I am trying to listen to the songs of Ned #Rorem. Why is this guy considered an important 20C composer? I don't get it. It seems like he's retreading Charles Ives but with trashy diaries.
Please chime in to defend him. What should I be listening to or for? Nobody would have heard of him if he actually is as boring as I'm finding him, so there must be something I'm missing. Aside from the trashy diaries.

He not only plays
One note
But holds another note
Away from it --
As a lover
Lifts
A waft of hair
From loved eyes.
The piano shivers,
When he touches it,
And the leg shines.https://www.liederabend.cat/en/bloc/entrades/1272-opus-101

#SongOfTheWeek : Opus 101 (N. Rorem)
This week, I would like to introduce a cycle by Ned Rorem, 'Santa Fe Songs', premiered in June 1980. The cycle consists of twelve songs that talk about usual matters such as love, nature and spirituality, and others not as common as music, and is written for voice (baritone or mezzo-soprano), piano and string trio.
