Wow, thank you all for the warm welcome and for the amazing response to my first toot! 🙏 Didn't expect that at all !🌱
Now, straight to the point: I'm trying to move away from destructive root phenotyping (scanner + WinRhizo) toward something non-invasive and time-resolved.
The plan: build custom rhizobox-like containers for hydroponic cultivation, paired with a fixed camera setup to track root growth completely non-destructively over time, in young plants (≤4-5 weeks). This is part of a small methodological project I'm developing (working name: GINA – Growth Imaging for Non-destructive root Analysis), with a tentative software stack of Fiji/ImageJ → SmartRoot → archiDART (in R) for image analysis. Here's a first look at the prototype I'm building 👇
Before I reinvent the wheel, who's already doing this kind of work?
Interested in:→ tools/software you use (Fiji/SmartRoot/RhizoVision/archiDART/other)
→ manual, semi- or fully automated segmentation/workflows
→ any non-destructive approach that actually works at this scale
Happy to connect, exchange ideas, share notes, or even collaborate — whether you're here on Mastodon or elsewhere! And if you know someone who might be interested in this kind of work, feel free to tag them or pass it along. Who should I follow or reach out to? Thanks! 😊
