Politicians carved themselves out of chat control because they know exactly how dangerous mass surveillance is.
If they truly believed scanning everyone's messages was safe and necessary, they'd include their own communications too. Instead: surveillance for citizens, privacy for politicians and police.
They understand the risks well enough to protect themselves. They just think you deserve less protection than they do.
When lawmakers exempt themselves from their own surveillance laws, they're confessing those laws are harmful.

If you don't invest heavily in solid end-to-end encryption, privacy-protective and No-AI features, you will be left behind. People might even laugh at you.

Magical backdoor only for "the good guys" is a complete fantasy 🔑✨
Let's say the strategy is akin to creating a MagicalKey that unlocks every door (a magical key because thinking encryption backdoors would only be used by "the good guys" is a great example of magical thinking).
Imagine only 1000 police officers have MagicalKeys.
Overtime, let's say only 1% of the police officers accidentally lose their MagicalKey. Now 10 MagicalKeys are lost in the wild and could be used by anyone else, for any purposes, including crime.
Then, let's say only 0.1% of police officers get corrupted by a crime gang. That's just one right? This corrupted "good guy" lets the gang create a double of the MagicalKey. Which crime gang wouldn't want a key that can magically open any door?
Now, the gang creates doubles of the MagicalKey they have. They use it subtly at first to avoid detection. They make sure they never leave traces behind, so victims have no idea their door got unlocked.
During this time, they steal your data, they sell it, they use it to impersonate you, they use it to harm you and your loved ones.
Then, another criminal figures out on their own how to emulate a MagicalKey without even having access to one.
The criminal creates a reproducible mold for this Emulated-MagicalKey and sells it to other criminals on the criminal market. Now, the MagicalKey™️ is available to any criminals looking for it.
Restrictions on the backdoor are off. Your personal data is up for grabs.
This is what is going to happen if backdoors are implemented in end-to-end encryption. But don't worry they say, "it's only for the good guys!".
At least, the criminals' data will also be up for grabs, right?
Nope! The criminals knew about this, so they just started using different channels that weren't impacted.
Criminals will have their privacy intact, they don't care about using illegal tools, but your legal privacy protections will be gone.
Backdoored end-to-end encryption isn't end-to-end anymore, it's just open-ended encryption. This offers pretty much no protection at all.

In many ways these widespread new "AI" features and products are a direct threat to privacy.
In many, if not most, of those systems (which often just branch out from OpenAI in the end) the data goes both ways. Meaning all input is collected, uploaded, then reused by the system.
This is disastrous for data privacy,
and for proprietary data as well.The antithesis of this practice is end-to-end encryption. In which the data is accessible only by its sender and intended recipient(s).
If you care about data protection at all, for yourself and for others, be very wary about any so-called AI feature. And seek end-to-end encryption everywhere it is possible to use it.

When you see a feature described as "encrypted" this does not necessarily (and rarely) mean "end-to-end encrypted."
This is not the same level of protection and end-to-end encryption offers much more protection for your data.
Whenever possible, make sure to look for products, services, and features that are end-to-end encrypted 🔒👍

Chat Control legislation is the equivalent of forcing the use of transparent envelops for every letters sent. It is incredibly dangerous for everyone's privacy and data.

Tiny Privacy Tip About Encryption News 🔒🎉
As end-to-end encryption becomes more popular (yay! :rainbowdance:),
Celebrate yes,
But also remain skeptical about how this word is used and if this claim warrants your trust.
Do not trust blindly.
End-to-end encryption is a wonderful protection when well implemented. But not all apps that use end-to-end encryption are equals.
Verify that:
1. The provider is trustworthy :blobcatthinkingglare:
2. Trustworthy third-parties have verified and confirmed the provider's claims 🔍
3. Metadata is also encrypted and/or that, ideally, its collection is minimized :blobcatpeekaboo:
4. Solid security measures protect the data as well (For example, if your data is end-to-end encrypted from your password but your password is vulnerable then your data is vulnerable as well) 🛡️
5. Encryption is truly end-to-end, meaning only the sender and the receiver can access the data and nobody else :ablobcatpeek:
Finally keep in mind that even if a service uses minimal encryption (for example one that still collects a lot of unencrypted metadata) it is still better than the same service using no content encryption at all,
BUT there are almost always much better services that offer truly complete and well implemented end-to-end encryption for their services.
Always favor the latter when you have a choice 🔒✨
