OK, now I'm convinced I'm being punked.
I had another person interested in the apt and and they were going to come over Sunday to look at it. I was going to say yes if they seemed ok, because they seemed OK so far after chatting with them. Then all of a sudden they were like sorry, can't do it, I can only afford $400.
Why the FUCK would you inquire about an $800 apartment if you can only afford $400? I mean seriously. WTF!
Am I losing my mind?

Currently staying with friends, but it's temporary. I'm trying to get a work permit and it's taking a while, so I'm looking for a short term place, like May to the end of August.

CW: Room vacancy in Strasbourg
A vacancy is opening up at the end of December in our queer #roommate in the Laiterie district of #Strasbourg! 2 rooms will be available:
a large one, at 570€/month all-inclusive (420€ if there are 3 of us), with a small balcony overlooking the boulevard ;
a smaller one, at 420€/month (even 320€ if there are 3 of us), overlooking the inner courtyard but also the passageway to the bathroom.
Unfortunately, the apartment is not wheelchair-accessible, being on the 1st floor with no lift. We have a mega-balcony that doubles as a living room in summertime, and everything is very pleasant, despite a few minor defects. No other animals live there at the moment!
In terms of living together, I have a relatively nocturnal rhythm, I like to share moments of life and discussions (I also speak French, a little German and Portuguese and I'm learning Spanish), I don't cook much at the moment but maybe that'll come back! In any case, I prefer my communal areas to be tidy and clean, so that we can use it without having to deal with the other's stuff...
The big downside is that the landlord doesn't want to add an amendment to the lease, so it would be a sublet, but I deduct my allowances from the total rent. The advantage is that there's no application to submit and no agency fees, just a 300€ deposit to redeem.

I (34, F) have a roommate, Algernon (spider, age unknown). We usually get on very well - he's quiet, tidy and our schedules don't overlap much. He does spend most of his time in the bathroom (I suspect because he is a pervert) but since he mostly hangs out on the ceiling, I've been happy to accommodate this.
However, he recently took over the whole bathtub. I thought he may be stuck and, keen not to emasculate him, I tied a ribbon to the bath handle so he could climb up by himself. Instead he took this as sign he could fill the tub with a web. Yesterday I moved him to an area of the apartment we both underuse (the top half of the hall cupboard). He was pretty furious, and we haven't spoken since. AITA??
