Really great and timely essay from Devin Kelly. He starts with a Ron Padgett poem but quickly takes an alternate route, winding up with a long meditation on how critics have often panned Mary Oliver and other women poets as overly sentimental/emotional/simple, but then praise the very same attributes in male poets.
His exploration of how folks like Merwin, Jim Harrison, and others get read in this way is particularly insightful.
Also, lots of good poems! From Padgett, Oliver, and others.
