The article has useful things to say.

But the following two extracts do not sit well together in a reasoned argument IMO.
    1.
"A Royal Commission is, by its very legislative nature, an inquisitorial system whereby the subject matter is explored rather than tested."
    2.
"An array of people have been allowed to give their subjective views, unfettered by the need to offer corroborating evidence or any evidence at all."

Yeah, that was a pretty good one but my personal fave is: “… our Pauline who would chase a laser pointer in the dark if she thought it would get her an extra second in a spotlight.“

    A strong visual image that!

Here’s the whole of Ronni Salt’s concluding paragraph for the context: “In One Nation world, none of this has to make sense – it just has to get attention. Like Pauline’s incessant mantras that she is sick and tired and has had a gutful, it’s all about the attention factor, and nobody crawls over hot coals for attention more than our Pauline who would chase a laser pointer in the dark if she thought it would get her an extra second in a spotlight. After listening to her endlessly moan last Wednesday about her four key culture-wars totems – the media, immigration, climate change and transgender rights – we can only conclude that yes, Pauline Hanson certainly is sick. And Pauline Hanson certainly is tired. So very, very tired.”

    vowels are everything in accents

the accent of a kiwi (especially someone from the south island) features vowel sounds i cannot imitate at all

when watching tv i identify the canadian actors by their vowel sounds; for example,
    “about” is invariably pronounced “aboat”

even my worst typos are comprised of bizarre vowel sounds

i remember reading a novel 500 years ago — i think it was one of edna o’brien’s — and though i recall none of the plot points, there was a running gag of telephone calls with someone who strangled her vowels. after several calls, the main character finally snapped and said “i hope your vowels move” before hanging up.

Pauline hanson always sounded to me like she is choking on her bile, or as if she has “the morbid sore throat”, but i will accept “saying her vowels backwards” as a good description. At least it would match the direction of her brain.

    Mr. Albanese goes to Washington

if you are unfamiliar with Ronni’s work, or with The Shot, here is a sample:

“Albanese’s pilgrimage to pay homage at the feet of our lords and masters, the United States of America, is over and he’s back on our selection at the Lodge. Yes, he’s finally come home with cattle now, our Anthony who’s gone a-droving, and he’s returned to enjoying the usual perks of office he loves so well. And who could deny him his perquisites after the extensive display of diplomatic foot-bathing he lavished on The Donald?”

i’m particularly amused by this para about australia’s contributions to US **self-reliance** 🙄

“While the media were obsessing over Kevin’s ancient indiscretions, Australians also missed out on the news that the US Department of War (no, that’s not a Futurama episode) will construct a 100 metric tonne-per-year advanced gallium refinery at the Alcoa plant in Wagerup, Western Australia.
The White House expanded on this minor factoid by adding that the facility will further advance the USA’s “self-reliance in critical minerals processing.” How about that for a win for Australia? Our minerals being dug up for the USA, and processed here by the USA, by a USA-owned corporation, to ship to the USA?

“Protest signs held aloft saying, End the Palestinian holocaust, are reported, written down and counted as ‘antisemitic incidents’.”

“This is how smoothly and cleanly pro-Israel propaganda manipulates reality. Tiny twists of the narrative, until it becomes something it isn’t and nobody notices or questions the unseen twists along the way.”

#RonniSalt always has a lovely way with words

“Yes, while snooping through the pages of a middle-aged woman he barely knew, and confronted with the image of a starving child, this wealthy privileged white male suddenly felt ‘unsafe’.”…
“The pro-Israel machine is not about balance, it’s not about objectivity. That would rely on all voices being heard and all sides being given equal sympathies and equal access to power. The pro-Israel lobby isn’t designed to balance debate nor to enrich it – it is designed to silence it. “

Here's my latest snark in @shot_au

"Is there anyone in Australia paying attention to the federal Liberal party apart from Canberra coke dealers and those men who post stale bottles of piss to Family Court judges?"

    Feedback and favourite lines welcome😎

This is purely about hijacking the news cycle

's input into the new Reserve Bank governor is neither legally required, morally required nor required in terms of his actual expertise in economics

His opinion on this is irrelevant

This is one of the many reasons why traditional media consumers are splintering & looking for alternative news sources.

Don't just be bag carriers for politicians smuggling out cheap bullshit.

It's not necessary to report every single brain fart, word or thought they spit out.

ABC News in Melbourne led with this in the 7 pm bulletin last night. Why? He has no part to play in it and his opinion doesn't matter.

    Labor is attacking Dutton because he attacks large companies campaigning for the Voice. I don't think Labor's frame here is wise. Here is what Dutton recently said;

Look at Wesfarmers. I think their $2 billion would be better off reducing prices in the supermarkets or reducing prices at Bunnings. When I go to Bunnings I would like to pay less for my goods not more. And I don't want to every time I hand over my credit card or cash at Bunnings or at Coles I don't want part of that money going to an activist CEO.

Voter frustration at Canberra not focusing on the cost of living crisis (perceived), is increasing daily. When we push voters to blame someone - who do they blame? Large companies.

Corporate Australia's social license has withered away over the last 20 years. Dutton knows that.

    @RonniSalt
Agreed - and Labor need to get in front of Dutton's talking points, not chase them from behind, always responding.

Dutton is almost 100% predictable. I've no idea why they don't make fun of him and spruik what he's about to say for the week.

Take the sting out of his schtick.

Dutton's approval rating across Australia is about as low as a fed opposition leader's has ever been.

    Dutton is spectacularly unpopular.

I don't understand why elements of the #VoteYes campaign are not exploiting this.

If you vote against the Voice - you support Peter Dutton.
