#Transport for #London Freedom of Information release:
#TfL said there has never been a confirmed date for introducing Wrightbus Electroliner buses on route 252. #Rainham Garage has enough power for existing electric routes 165, 174 and 287, but a major electricity grid upgrade is needed before route 252 and others can switch to electric, with completion hoped for by the end of the year. TfL does not buy buses, so it does not hold Electroliner costs. Around 820 double-deck and 240 single-deck Electroliners operate across the TfL network. Passenger numbers are available through TfL's BUSTO dataset. There are no plans to change route 252 or its stops, although the network is kept under review. Route 252 uses #Romford Station stops X and Y because the closest stops cannot accommodate all bus services.

#Romford Western Road and Mercury Gardens Collision Reduction Programme – Proposed Safety Improvements
#Havering Council is seeking views on proposed road safety improvements for Western Road and Mercury Gardens. A feasibility study found that up to 800 vehicles an hour use Western Road, with speeds regularly reaching 40mph. Collision data recorded 14 personal injury accidents over five years, including three serious incidents. Four involved pedestrians, while two occurred in wet conditions and two during hours of darkness.
Funded by #Transport for #London, the proposed scheme includes a new zebra crossing and relocation of an advertising board at the South Street/Western Road junction, “Look Both Sides” markings at the existing pelican crossing, a staggered pelican crossing in Mercury Gardens north of Western Road, and a new zebra crossing on Western Road east of Mercury Gardens. Residents can submit comments, quoting reference QX018, by Friday 3 July 2026.

🚍⚡️ #London has reached a major environmental milestone, with more than 3,000 zero-emission #buses now in service, representing around a third of #Transport for London’s fleet ahead of Clean Air Day. The number has increased from just 30 electric buses in 2016, making London home to the largest zero-emission bus fleet in Western #Europe. #TfL estimates a fully zero-emission bus fleet could save five million tonnes of carbon over the next 20 years, while the current fleet already cuts emissions by more than 100,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually. All new London buses have been zero-emission since 2021. TfL has also completed the conversion of lighting at around 12,000 bus shelters to LED #technology, reducing energy use by more than half and improving visibility. The 3,000th zero-emission bus is operating on route 165 between #Romford and #Rainham.

#Transport for #London Freedom of Information release:
#TfL has responded to an information request regarding prolonged programme overruns and delay provisions for the highway and utility works at Gallows Corner in #Romford. The utility works, coordinated alongside TfL’s flyover scheme, involve an ageing water main replacement by Essex & Suffolk Water (ESW). Although the applicant enquired about delay damages under an NEC contract, TfL clarified that no such contract exists. Instead, ESW operates as a statutory undertaker under the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA).
The initial schedule targeted a start on 24 June 2025 and completion by 12 September 2025. While significant TfL works concluded in April 2026, additional water main testing and commissioning have caused ongoing delays. Consequently, standard delay damages do not apply; any potential cost recovery will be assessed under Section 82 of the NRSWA once the project is fully completed.

In 1978, #London #Transport (LT) trialled the Multi-ride ticket system in #Havering, aiming to achieve 100% one-man bus operations. The scheme, introduced in February, simplified the fare structure, offering discounts for regular travellers. London Country’s route 370, running between #Romford and Corbets Tey, also participated, as did Eastern National, which started later in May. Multi-ride stickers were carried by BT vehicles at Grays garage. The trial aimed to reduce boarding times and streamline fare collection, but although passenger uptake exceeded expectations (with around 75% using Multi-ride tickets), boarding times only dropped to 3 seconds, still far from the 2-second target for efficient one-man operation. Despite being popular with passengers, the scheme didn’t achieve the desired operational efficiency. As a result, LT reconsidered expanding the scheme fleetwide and reassessed future vehicle replacements.

1/5 #infrared
I've been shooting a lot of infrared lately so this week here's another selection. This is a dead tree in Bedfords Park, north of #Romford.

An #infrared shot with two edits - this is the #monochrome reply to the colour edit.
I'm mainly going for black and white #ir shots these days, but I can't make up my mind about this one.
It's a #590nm 4 shot panorama on my full spectrum Sony A7ii with a #Konica35mmf2 lens. (I was too lazy to change the lens to the 21mm) and taken last Monday in winter sunshine in Raphael Park in #Romford.

Sun's out, so me and the #TheDoodle took #MPoulet out for a cruise into #Romford.
This little cycle track was campaigned for by Havering Cyclists and it makes the entrance into town so easy.

Worldwide Signings is one of the small businesses in #Romford #Essex that could close soon. There has already been other small businesses close in Romford Shopping Mall which is a terrible shame.
People seem to be unable to get off their behind and walk/bus/drive to stores and give their money to billionaires by shopping online.

My mother used to work at Queens Hospital in #Romford #Essex - pity A&E has turned into such a chaotic place. Hopefully news articles like these will raise awareness and put pressure on those who should be fixing things.

I've just learned that Havering Museum, Romford is holding an exhibition of the phenomenal art and craft of my late aunt Wendy Pidgeon until 25 April. Doesn't seem to be listed on the Havering Museum website - details came from Romford Embroiderers, which Wendy helped establish.

The #Christmas tree and lights switch on ceremony in #Romford East #London is #cancelled - the Council is bankrupt and had to be bailed out by central government and these things cost money to put on (likely including having to pay #MetPol to keep an eye on things and make sure everyone behaves in this culture war flashpoint area on the border of London and #Essex )

Out for a spin on #MPoulet having dropped #TheDoodle off for an activity. I think the tyres go well with #Romford's newest cycle track.

From #Romford to #Frankfurt! 🫶
Although it is getting tougher for me to appreciate #concerts in venues of such large size as #Frankfurt's #Jahrhunderthalle I'm really enjoying #Underworld's gig. Good, that I finally managed to see them live.

She'll be appearing on toast next
For non-Brits Romford is not the sort of place you'd usually see Royalty, it would be like seeing Taylor Swift in a New Jersey car park

A 6 year old girl in #Romford , East #London got a bravery award and a tour of the London #Ambulance Service control room after calling 999 when her mother collapsed after collecting her from school.
She was able to give full details of landmarks to the LAS control room (whilst they appear to have got AML/GPS locations, these still have only about 10-100m accuracy - London is dense and crowded) to assist the Ambulance in locating the patient...

This #roundabout with flyover in #Romford (on the border of #London and South #Essex) can no longer cope with todays levels of traffic, and has become a notorious source of crashes (I'm not surprised, a non signalised roundabout of that size is going to end up as "law of the jungle" particularly in this part of London where drivers are more aggressive...)
