Now that #Fox has acquired #ROKU and #enshittification has ensued, imma have to ditch my one #RokuTV and the Roku box on my old Samsung (which is awesome). My friends and online network are suggesting AppleTV or the Google stick for a streaming alternative. Any thoughts? I’m open to suggestions…

So I’ve got this interesting situation with my tv. I don’t live in an apartment complex. My neighbors’ houses are the typical distance from my own in the cul-de-sac. Still, I think that one of my closet neighbors must be accessing my tv. Three times now audio has played from it while the tv is off. It sounds like a kid’s show usually. When we turn the tv on it immediately goes away and we get full access as usual. My parents are going to casually ask our neighbors if they have Roku ones too.

Just trashed a #Roku. Never felt so good. Plus, never buy their shit products again.

Next time I recommend something, will be an #AppleTV. Of course it's pricier, but at least it works.

I use pihole but still allow ads on our Roku TVs. We generally find some of their ads useful (the ones placed to the right of the "channels"). Roku have made some mistakes, such as adding a recommendations row, but I can now turn that off.

I cannot judge other OSes, but Roku seems to have found a reasonable balance for us.

@davemark This is why you shouldn't connect #smarttv to your network or at least use a VLAN for it's connection if you do. #rokutv will make 1000s of dns requests a day just phoning home for whatever it's doing.

Sto pensando di lasciare #sky e passare a #NowTV però avrei bisogno di collegare al le tv un dispositivo in grado di gestire la relativa app. La #firestick di #amazon sembrerebbe la scelta più semplice ed economica ma mi disturba l'idea di comprare un dispositivo dovendo poi accettare di ricevere costantemente la pubblicità del venditore: so però che si può hackerare.
