Burns was a writer for Jay Ward Productions, which did the ads for Quaker Oats from 1963-84.

  7. Tape of Jay Ward Productions music. Some of which are familiar if you watched "Rocky & Bullwinkle" cartoons, others curiosities which may never have been used on the air ("Guy Lombardo Meets Thelonious Monk"?!). Back in the 1960s, even "limited animation" cartoons had real musicians record music.

  11. Along with Disney's animated features, Jay Ward's 'Fractured Fairy Tales' was my introduction to many classic stories. A segment of 'The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show,' these hilarious cartoons retold various fairy tales with a modern and often satirical twist. #FairyTaleTuesday

  13. “I said to Jay [Ward], ‘How do you want Rocky to sound?’ And he said, ‘Just an all-American boy.’ So I made him an all-American squirrel!” — June Foray (1917-2017)

As Rocky the Flying Squirrel, Natasha, Granny, Witch Hazel and many more, she was the voice of our childhood. ❤️

  14. Today is the birthday of the one and only June Foray!

She has too many character voices to her name but I'll share that my favourite is Witch Hazel from Looney Tunes.

  19. Today in 1964 — THE BULLWINKLE SHOW aired its last original episode on NBC.

It debuted in 1959 as ROCKY AND HIS FRIENDS on ABC, then changed title when it moved to NBC in '61.

In reruns and home video it was renamed for both moose AND squirrel!

  20. @WendyMsGator Indeed. #RockyAndBullwinkle helped shape the comedic sensibilities of a generation (or two). I didn't discover it until the late 1970s!

  21. The anniversary of the premiere of #RockyAndBullwinkle is a good time to remind everyone that the original 1959-64 series is not streaming.

    I wonder who's to blame.
