  1. One of my fave isolated #beaches to have a fire & hang out, watching the #ocean 😊 I love rock hunting here too. I've found lots of interesting rocks here before.
It's a 45 minute drive from our home to get to this spot. I saw no one else there, on my last visit.

  2. Odd question for all the #rockhounds on Mastodon. My future sister-in-law has a keen interest in rocks and minerals and an upcoming birthday. I'm looking for something pretty, since she will be putting it in her professional office, but the texture is even more important since she is blind. Does anyone have a good recommendation?

  3. The Hair Dryer.

This is a slice of rock illuminated by polarized light, viewed through a microscope. There were other color patters, I think made by varying the light.

I used to follow a "Microckscopia" accont on the bird site that published these images.

My hope is the person who posted these pics/running that account and I are able to connect here on the fedi because they had the background to know the type and region of the rocks, and to explain what the images contain

What are some other good hashtags to use for these kinds of picture? I have about 150 of them.

  5. Look for the face in the rock

I used to follow a "Microckscopia" accont on the bird site that published/gets credit for these images. Any chance you heard of that account, or know anyone doing that?

  6. Today's rock slices illuminated by polarized light, and picture taken on a microscope, as I remember it, are called "Ooids"

  7. Starting my own thread on this.

I used to follow a "Microckscopia" accont on the bird site that publish these images of polarized light shone through thin slices of many different kinds of rocks. Any chance you heard of that account, or know anyone doing that?

    Here are a couple examples

  9. Gorgeous lepidolite specimen that friends bought from the recent Rocks & Minerals show here.

#Lepidolite is a lilac-gray/rose-colored member of the #mica group of #minerals . It's the most abundant #lithium bearing mineral & a secondary source of this metal. It's a major source of the alkali metal #rubidium too.

  11. Here’s just some little pebbles, seaglass, and shell bits I found on my latest trip to #Aotearoa #NewZealand. I loved this pebble beach we stopped to explore near Hokianga Harbour. #RockHounds #Geology

  12. I have a rock habit 😬 This is one of my favourite finds so far, not exactly sure what it is, septarian nodule perhaps? I have a few similar i found local to me in Fife. Maybe any fellow rockhounds would know.
