  2. "Pinball Wizard" is a song by the English #rock band #theWho, written by guitarist and primary songwriter #PeteTownshend and featured on their 1969 #rockOpera album #Tommy. The original recording was released as a single in 1969 and reached No. 4 in the UK charts and No. 19 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The B-side of the "Pinball Wizard" single is an instrumental credited to #KeithMoon, titled " #Dogs Part Two". Despite the title.

  3. Neil Young's Greendale is a really solid album. The often 7-13 minute runtimes for certain songs can try your patience, but it is perhaps one of the few really good and worthwhile albums he released in the 21st century. I gave it my first relisten in many years this afternoon after getting home from school.

  6. VARIOUS ARTISTS
Phantom Of The Paradise - Original Soundtrack Recording
    1974 Canada pressing

    Last spin of the night.

A great soundtrack to a very weird movie.
As a songwriter myself, I adore Paul Williams.
As a kid, it started with “Rainbow Connection”, but as I got into my teens, I discovered this batshit fucking movie that not only STARS Paul, but was scored by him as well. The film sent me into a deep dive of Paul’s songwriting, and exposed me to just how brilliant he is.

It’s a very odd movie, and so are the songs, and not everybody is a fan. I can’t explain why it made such an impression on me as a teenager, or why it’s stayed with me all these years, but it’s essentially MY Rocky Horror Picture Show.

But I fully understand why people hate it. 😂

I’m just not one of those people.

  7. "I Don't Know How to Love Him" is a song from the 1970 album and 1971 #rockOpera #JesusChristSuperstar written by #AndrewLloydWebber (music) and #TimRice (lyrics), a #torchBallad sung by the character of #MaryMagdalene. In the opera she is presented as bearing an #unrequitedLove for #theTitleCharacter. The song has been much recorded, with "I Don't Know How to Love Him" being one of the rare songs – after the 1950s.

  8. Trying to start a tradition of watching at least one version of Jesus Christ Superstar during easter, with friends, and learning that a lot of people have never seen it or heard the music before. Wild stuff!

    How about you?

  10. The only downside to the Bat Out of Hell albums is that they invite you to imagine Meatloaf having sex far too frequently.

  11. Part 6 of the Skylark Duquesne rock opera "Selena & the Lighthouse Keeper" visits the LK himself! In "Moon Like a Heart", he was a determined romantic. Now, he's a bitter recluse who's made a deal with the devil. What will it take for him to have faith in love, again? Robots.

  13. Re-boosting the Skylark Duquesne rock opera "Selena & the Lighthouse Keeper"

I had the thought of doing a Lennon/McCartney thing, with two songs stuck together. The result is this adorable, folky/rocky bit of sci-fi story song: "Selena, Princess of the Moon", sung from two POVs.

  14. Another song from my 2019 (remixed in 24) rock opera "Selena and the Lighthouse Keeper" here's "Beta Dome City". It's an instrumental and it's funky, so crank the bass till your insides shake!

  15. Re-upping my rock opera, "Selena and the Lighthouse Keeper" about a revolution against extractionist fascists on the moon. I remixed this in 2024, not realizing that we might need these spirits again so soon.

"Alpha Dome City" is my try at arena rock. What do you think?

  16. Re-upping my 2019 (remixed in '24) rock opera, "Selena and the Lighthouse Keeper: Across the Sea of Showers"

A dystopian revolution story set on the moon.

Here's the adorable folk-rocker anthem, "Moon Like a Heart"

  17. The Who, Quadrophenia, 1973 on MCA

Not to be confused with the Quadrophenia soundtrack, which followed the 1979 film, this is the sixth studio album from The Who, a 2xLP release from 1973 on Track Records in the UK. It followed Tommy and Who’s Next.

Like Tommy, it’s a rock opera telling the story of a mod named Jimmy, who says in the liner notes:

    Schizophrenic? I’m Bleeding Quadrophenic

I love the iconic mod parka on a vespa scooter with the faces of the band in the mirrors: photo by Graham Hughes from an idea by Roger Daltry.

My copy—via Electric Fetus in Minneapolis MN—is a 1980 or later Pickneyville Pressing with the rainbow MCA labels and “©”1980 MCA Records Inc.” in the rim text. The fourth side does not include “Record 1 Side 4” notation – not sure if that’s a misprint or manufacturing error.

  18. We got to the final listed track, track 15 "The Fate of Thomas Light" and it's the saddest bit of music I've listened to in awhile. Everybody in the Bandcamp livestream was devastated. This can't be the end of Act III. #Protomen #Music #RockOpera

  19. We're almost to the end of Act III. It's been a wonderful journey. #Music #RockOpera #Protomen

  20. This week's Act III #Protomen is "The Dream." Amazing call back to Act III and it's cool to hear Emily again in the story, even only as a memory. #Music #ConceptAlbum #RockOpera. We're getting to the endgame now.
