This is a match between two of the tougher robots the event saw, Terminal Impact and The Impaler. Terminal Impact was my robot and it was built from an RC car that I'd rewired and hacked a massive spinning disc onto. The Impaler was also a scrap build and it was a sturdy metal box that resembled its namesake, BattleBots competitor Vlad The Impaler.

I've cleaned out my workshop to show off and talk about over two decades worth of robot combat and hobbyist maker stuff. Some of the stuff in this box dates back to the year 2000! I'll also be playing some old fight videos featuring some of these robots as well as debuting never before seen footage of my oldest robots that I've dug out of the VHS archives just for this stream!

Then, afterward, we'll be watching and talking about some of the best underground robot combat fights of all time. All this because there is no Robogames livestream for me to host with my own lame jokes and commentary! My loss is your gain!

Photo from 2021 taken on the 20th anniversary of my middle school's robotics club. We met every Friday morning to talk about radio controlled cars and hacking them to do cool things. We had a few after school "tournaments" where we'd battle our creations.

I'm in the orange shirt, just to the right of the middle of the photo.

These were good times, and I miss them dearly.

How does more #BattleBots sound? This is Full Auto, a beetleweight I built back in 2017. The name of the game here was to make something with a lot of "crumple" space so it could get demolished and still work. I designed an outer shell that looked like a demo derby car and ran with it from there.

Full Auto's power indication light was actually a set of four LED's acting as headlights and brake lights and its main weapon was a thick steel train plow-styled ram. Unfortunately the robot wasn't as quick as I'd have liked since I got some bad intel on the motors I ordered from China. Even running them at 12V still produced weak results.

Full Auto took a beating, as you can see, and was eventually dispatched in the royal rumble when a vertical spinner hit it from the side and bent up its base plate lifting all of its wheels off the ground. The robot was still 100% operational after that it, it was just too bent out of shape to move around!

I'm obsessed with tank tracks so under the hood this little guy is packing treads and two drive motors similar in size to what you'd see on a 1 pound antweight. In other words you're going to lose a tractor pull with this robot!

Telefrag took 2nd place at a DARC event in 2017 after losing only one fight. It has continued to compete over the years but hasn't matched that same level of success again.

Telefrag appeared in the YouTube show Antweight Anarchy as a show bot! I've attached a picture of the replica build to this post as well, however I did not build this version. This one was done by Anthony Murney.

Since my previous post was such a hit here's another one of my #BattleBots I am proud of! This is Kill Switch, seen here in its fifth iteration dubbed "Gold Split" from 2017.

This robot was originally designed and built in 2003 and earned a reputation of being hard to kill. For almost a dozen fights it never lost by KO until someone managed to flip it over to immobilize it. That requirement, flipping it over, has persisted throughout the robot's career as its ablative armor and hearty tank tracks make it a challenge to knock out.

Gold Split was a massive improvement and reworking of the Kill Switch design featuring a longer wedge, a rear bumper panel, and stronger drive motors. The name "Gold Split" is a speedrunning term for a player's fastest time and because this Kill Switch was tougher and faster than the others we saw it fitting to carry the name.

Currently this version of Kill Switch is retired and as of 2023 the robot is pending a total rebuild, soon to be "Kill Switch Classic" for reliability reasons.
